Katherine Stehr (213) 241 - 0148 mCLASS: DIBELS Next Data Analysis for Instructional Leaders Session 2 - Closing the Gap: Date: April 20, 2012 Location: Harbor Building Time: two morning sessions / 25 participants in each session and one afternoon session / 27 participants Participants: School site Administrator (a designee may attend but it is highly recommended that the administrator of the school site attend) Focus: This session elaborates on the data analysis and data conversations begun in the previous session. Participants explore the kinds of aggregate data reports available to them in the Reporting and Analysis Suite and apply an action research process using these aggregate reports to identify students not making adequate progress to advance class and student performance. This session continues to demonstrate the importance for instructional leaders to establish clear processes to analyze assessment data. During this session, participants focus implementation and evaluation of differentiated instruction, on how to sustain differentiated instruction from one year to the next. Participants also use Reporting and Analysis Suite data to investigate school needs. Registration on the Learning Zone began on March 29, 2012. Instructional Seminar: April 26, 2012 AM and PM Sessions Harbor Building Focus: Constructed Response on the Literacy Periodic Assessments (LPAs). Two sessions will be offered on that day; a morning and an afternoon session. Registration is required on the Learning Zone and it is available beginning April 10, 2012. Students in middle school who did not meet the two criteria will not earn high school graduation credit, and might need to repeat Algebra 1. 1. Students who receive a grade of D and meet one of the assessment criteria may be enrolled in Algebra 2 or Geometry. 2. All middle school parents and guardians must be notified regarding this policy change. Schools are directed to send the parent notification (Attachment A/BUL-5325.1) to all parents and guardians of the students enrolled in their schools. Diagnostic Assessments in Grades 5 and 8: Elementary schools will continue to administer the fifth grade Diagnostic Assessment to all 5th grade students. Middle schools will administer the eighth grade Diagnostic Assessment to all 8th grade students enrolled in Algebra Readiness or in Algebra 1A. The annual evaluation must be completed online. Please review MEM-4631.4 (dated November 10, 2011) for specific steps and instructions to follow. A copy of the Evaluation must be included in the Assurances and Justification Pages. Elementary Transfer Data to Middle Schools: The Office of Data & Accountability will automatically transfer student data from the elementary schools (grades 5/6) to the receiving resident middle schools. Assessment of 5th/6th Grade ELs for Placement in MS ELD/ESL Curriculum: For appropriate placement in English Language Arts or English Language Development middle school curriculum, all fifth/sixth grade matriculating English Learners (ELs), ELD levels 1 5, will take the Diagnosis and Placement Inventory (DPI): April 2 20, 2012 Tracks A & C Exception: EL who has a current CST/ELA score of Basic, Proficient or Advanced and a current CELDT overall level of 3, 4 or 5. Maze Measures Diagnostic Assessments for 5th/6th and 8th Grades: To provide a uniform and systematic assessment system for students preparing to move from elementary to middle and middle to high school, LAUSD developed the Maze Measure as a diagnostic assessment in ELA for 5 th/6th and 8th grade students. MEM-5425 (dated March 2, 2012) provides the guidelines in the administration and scoring of the Maze Measure diagnostic assessment. The Diagnosis and Placement Inventory (DPI) for English Learners remains in effect as outlined in REF-3490.6 (dated February 13, 2012).
