PN showcases best practices during ISA Public Governance Forum

he Philippine Navy (PN) shared its governance best practices during the Public Governance Forum organized by the Institute for Solidarity in Asia (ISA) and the National Competitiveness Council (NCC) last 30 March 2012 at the Philippine International Convention Center. The Forum is part of ISAs advocacy to highlight the efforts of the public and private sectors in eliminating corruption and moving our country forward towards development. The said forum focused on the theme ONE SPIRIT, ONE ADVOCACY which aimed to showcase the governance progress reports from National Government Agencies and Local Government Units that subscribe to the Performance Governance System (PGS) of the ISA. out in the Sail Plan during the Roundtable Discussion on Transforming Government at the National Level. He also highlighted the automated budgeting system, which guides the PN to ensure impl ementati on of our strategy. PNGF 3rd Leg tackles Wellness, Leadership and Change


The Philippine Navy conducted the 3rd Leg of its Governance Forum Series 2012 on the topic Wellness, Leadership and Change last 23 March 2012 at the Headquarters Philippine Navy MultiPurpose Hall, Roxas Boulevard, Manila. Ms. Susan Grace Rivera, Managing Consultant and W.E.L.L. Coach, graced the Forum as the guest speaker. She is a volunteer consultant of The Naval Special Services Office, which is one of the main organizers of the Forum. The topic on Wellness jived with the ongoing conduct of the PN Admirals Cup. Ms. Riveras lecture gave the participants a deeper appreciation of the said activity, as well as of other related activities such as the Physical Fitness Test and organized Athletics. But more than this, her lecture was an eye-opener to the impact of our wellness, or lack of it, to our function as defenders of our country and our people. Ms. Rivera first showed facts and statistics on global health risks, comparison of health care spending across the globe and the impact of illness -wellness on the economy. Of more interest to the PN, Ms. Rivera showed the impact of illness-wellness on the military. She stressed that military wellness is a national security imperative. Navy 2020: Strong and Credible


CMCPO, PN conducts 1st Morale and Welfare Symposium

In taking part to the pursuit of highly motivated professionals in the Philippine Navy, the Office of the Command Master Chief Petty Officer, Philippine Navy conducted its first Morale and Welfare Symposium last 12-13 March 2012 at the HPN Multi-Purpose Hall, Roxas Boulevard, Manila. The Government Movers Enlightening the Nation (GMEN), a group headed by Mr. Neils Patrick C. Riconalla with the advocacy of educating government personnel to be more effective in serving their constituent and the general public, facilitated the Symposium, in coordination with the Office of the Assistant Chief of Naval Staff for Personnel, N1 and the Center for

Naval Leadership and Excellence (CNLE). During the first part of the Symposium, LT Edwin German A Cordova, Acting Assistant Director of CNLE, conducted a lecture on the PN Strategic Sail Plan 2020 to emphasize the important role of enlisted personnel in sailing towards a strong and credible Navy that our maritime nation can be proud of. This was followed by a lecture on Personal Finance. The second part of the symposium is the module by the GMEN, Mentoring Leadership by E.X.A.M.P.L.E. This expounded on a series of lectures on the topic with the acronym EXAMPLE (Embrace the challenge, eXcel in your area of gifting, Act responsibly, Make the time, Pass on the responsibility, Learn from others and Enjoy the process). After every lecture, the participants gather with their small groups with their facilitators to share their points of view and personal experiences.

Hospicio F Aurellano Jr PN, Assistant CMCPO also gave a lecture about the AFP Standard of Discipline. The Offfice of the CMCPO, PN, headed by MCPO Nicolas P Sabido, will

be conducting the Symposium quarterly, with the view that it will help our Enlisted Personnel enhance their leadership skills, moral and work values, and personal financial management.

wellness of the members of Team Navy has a direct impact on our vision of becoming strong and credible. Ms. Rivera emphasized that wellness should be approached in a holistic manner. People who are wholly well in mind, body, spirit are the key to every organizations sustainable success. Thus, for every organization, proactive education, disease prevention and chronic case management ought to be central. After stressing these points, Ms. Rivera engaged the participants into a quick assessment of their individual wellness. She then went on to discuss different proactive and preventive measures on wellness, which include crafting a health and wellness strategy,

tracking and managing health and wellness data and their impact methodically, crafting guided nutrition programs and conducting seminars on specific illnesses based on their trends. The Forum underlined our responsibility to keep ourselves well for our families and for the people we have vowed to serve and protect. The PN also has a responsibility to create an environment that promotes wellness for every sailor, marine and civilian employee. Most importantly, it underlined the fact that wellness is a crucial component of Highly competent and motivated professionals, the foundation of a strong and credible Navy that our maritime nation can be proud of.
