M the Movement

Known as M, Simplicio Michael Luis Asis Herrera was born in Manila to a Chinese/Spanish father and a Spanish/Filipina mother. The family moved to the United States when he was five years old. Due to his cultural diversity M recognized the importance of creating harmony despite differences. He grew up with a dream. His dream was to shed light into the hearts and souls of individuals, uniting them through fashion, art, film and music. M believes that you can wrap your body with the fabric of thought, and has therefore chosen fashion as the platform to communicate his philosophy. M has accomplished more than most individuals his age. Beginning shortly after graduating from The Fashion Institute of Design and Merchandising in 1996 at the age of 19, M became head graphic designer for Karl Kani Jean (The Godfather of Hip Hop/Urban fashion) where he traveled to China and coordinated production and development. M also became the liaison between Karl Kanis licensees in Germany, South Africa, France and Japan where he learned the differences between international markets. At age 22, M continued designing while simultaneously accepting an instructor position at his Alma Mater for graphics and fashion design for another 3 years until he felt the need to learn and experience more in his life outside of the United States. M relocated to Germany where he was offered Creative Director position in 2002, designing and managing for a team of 10 designers, catering to European corporate brands such as: Vodafone, Tui, Carlsberg, T-Mobile, Red Bull and Fischer to name a few. His more noted collection during his time in Europe was designing the joint collection of PUMA-BMW for the Formula One Races around the world for Ralf and Michael Schumacher. In 2005, M then began a new line called Mthemovement, a luxury designer streetwear line for men and women with an emphasis on its humanitarian perspective. It is a full lifestyle collection comprised of denims, cashmere sweaters, fashion knit tops, shirtings, intimates and accessories, with an emphasis on eco friendly fabrics with humanitarian efforts. Mthemovement is now the hottest eco-friendly designer streetwear brand on the west coast of the United States. The journey doesnt end thereM is about to embark on launching two new fashion brands. One line will be called SML (Simplicio Michael Luis), a super couture line for men and women to be launched in 2012. A second line will be called MVMT, a smart and functional line for men and women comprised of easy but fresh separates for the youth of today. M has received a plethora of press, several awards, was included in several Best T-shirt Graphics-2004 and Best Fashion Trims- 2008 and How to run a fashion company-2008 industry books and is currently serving as a member of the Advisory Board for the Bachelor of Business program at F.I.D.M. His clientele have included: The Black Eyed Peas, Britney Spears, Nick Cannon, Jill Scott, Kid Rock, Far East Movement, and LMFAO to name a few.
