Introduction
The Indian scooty market over the years has managed to get quite a number of women users. Designed mostly to suit to the trendy Indian woman scooty's introduced by the top automobile companies in India have carved a niche for themselves in the world of two wheelers. Mostly metrosexual in their appearance these scooty's are powerful yet sleek and light weight.The popularity of Mopeds in India as one of the most convenient personal transport vehicle has taken shape since its introduction. First manufactured mopeds in India were by the TVS Company, at Hosur in Tamil Nadu. The mopeds and the scooterettes combined, constitute nearly 1/4th of the total market share of the two-wheelers in India. Honda started selling gearless scooter in India in the year 2001 with Honda Activa and Honda Dio. Honda grabbed lion's share of gearless scooter market rapidly with these scooters and threw conventional scooters away from the market which was dominated by Bajaj Auto only at that time. Now only gearless scooters are in production and each and every company has at least one product in the segment.

Mopeds Companies and Brands Available in India Honda Motor Company

Honda Company came to the Indian shores in 2004 with the launch of the sleek Honda Unicorn. Honda followed up its success with motorbikes by ground breaking scooties like the Honda Activa, which has owners all over the country beaming with pride and pleasure. Hero Honda undoubtedly among the Top Scooty Brands in India has recently created waves with its various scooty models. The scooty a hot favorite among the college goers is known for its fuel efficient four stroke engine and highest ground clearance levels. Honda has been updating their scooter range frequently to maintain consumer interest in their products.The company is also working on enhancing their production capacities to meet the growing demand in the Indian market.

Honda Scooty Models/ Brands Honda Activa


Honda Activa is the incorporation of innovative design for better riding posture; ease of driving for great stability on the road; and convenient body line for easier and faster maintenance. Activa provides 8 bhp of maximum power through its 109 cc engine. With all these features Honda Activa takes a strong lead in the ungeared scooter market. The scooter is also known as a family two-wheeler for its higher load carrying capacity. The vehicle has the option of kick- and self-start. Activa incorporates better rider comfort and includes the puncture-resistant "tuff-up" tyre and tube combination. It has low riding height and low noise 4cycle engine. It gives the mileage of about 45 km per litre in the long run. Punchline fot the new Activa is Joy ON & ON.Honda Activa can be owned in various shades viz. pearl sunbeam white, metallic, black, lucid red, force silver metallic, wild purple metallic and geny grey.

Honda Aviator

Honda Motorcycles launched the new 110cc Honda Aviator with new features like Combi-Brake where front and rear brakes get activated jointly when the left lever is applied, telescopic front suspension to achieve smoother handling, lower

vibration and more stable high-speed control.The 110cc Aviator also has features like viscous air filter which needs less maintenance. A maintenance free battery is also part of the package along with the patented Tuff Up Tube tyres. The Aviator was introduced in the market as the third offering from Honda in the scooter segment. Since this scooter is powered by the same engine that runs in the Activa or the Dio, there is nothing exceptionally different in its performance. However, completely new looks with some added features make the Aviator stand apart from the competition. An unusual and futuristic design philosophy, which Honda has adapted from the latest version of the Fireblade, adds a touch of muscle to the scooter and targets the adult male buyers. This comes as the most important change in the Aviator as compared to the Activa, which is targeted more towards the female population and the Dio which is more of a youth friendly vehicle. The new Honda Aviator scooter has been launched with a brand new punch line Live Your Style. The New Honda Aviator is available in following five shades:

Honda Pleasure

The Hero Honda Pleasure has made its name in the scooterette's market, being fitted with features meant specifically for the modern woman. Besides its

established appeal and glamour, the Hero Honda Pleasure comes with attributes that makes it one of the most convenient and reliable scooterettes in the market. Launched in early 2006, Hero Honda Pleasure has achieved more than 7.5% market share in its category within a year and has become the fastest growing phenomenon in the 75-125 cc gearless scooter market in India. With a marketing message of "Why should boys have all the fun?" this gearless scooter is going places.The company wanted to target the young lady riders who want more fun.Hero Honda Pleasure is launched with nine stunning shades. The colours are: dream orange, candy blazing red, aqua green, sports red, monotone black, dual tone black, evony grey, light purple and force silver.

Honda Eterno

Honda Eterno can be compared with Suzuki Access, Kinetic Fly and Honda Activa. The looking of the scooter is classical. Front shape of the scooter is improved. The face is broad and side indicators attracts as well. The body colour is bright. The dashboard is wide and having analogue format. Fuel gauge and speedometer is fitted on the console. Under the handlebars, there is wide storage space for your stuffs. One can put lunch box, documents, bottles and bag in it. Enough space is there under seat to store a full size helmet, enough room even to store two normal large-size lunch boxes. Honda Eterno comes with a neutral lock that prevents the scooter from accidental jumping while starting. Honda

TVS Motor Company is the third largest two-wheeler manufacturer in India and is among the world's top ten. It is the flagship company of the parent TVS Group employing over 40,000 people with an estimated 15 million customers. It manufactures motorcycles, scooters, mopeds and auto rickshaws. It is India's only two-wheeler company to have won the Deming Prize awarded for

commitment to quality control, received in 2002. TVS Scooty has come up with all the salient features which are really essential for good scooterettes. It is available with several features which are truly required to make the riding safer and secured. TVS Scooty Pep


Its 74.6 cc 4 stroke single cylinder air-cooled engine produces maximum power of 3.0 kw @ 6500 rpm . Its 900 cc engine is now available with Roller Follower Mechanism.Its easy mobile charging socket has the option for charging the mobile by avoiding the inconvenience caused while mobile gets switched off. Its easy center stand makes the parking facility more comfortable. Its key ring with glow surrounding makes it more eye-catching even at night.It is found in different colors:Orange trap,Electric Red,Purple Mischief,Night Black.

TVS scooty Streak

Mahindra Motor Company

After starting off as a four wheeler utility vehicle manufacturer, Mahindra recently forayed into the two wheeler segment buying the ailing Kinetic Motors in August 2008. The first product from their stables was the 125cc Flyte which essentially is the same Kinetic Sym Flyte with Mahindra (Sym) badging. The scooter won accolades from everywhere for being a fantastic product but sadly, these accolades did not transform into sales majorly because of the concerns of the future of the company and lack of sales and service support.Soon after, in true Mahindra style, the company launched two brand new scooters albeit with same engines and christened them Rodeo and Duro. The very look and design of the products were attractive .

Mahindra Rodeo
The Rodeo draws majority of its cues from its sibling, the Flyte. While Flyte looked a little feminine, Rodeo has been given a meatier feel to cater to both the sexes. Right from the front the scooter oozes a lot of style. It has a well crafted mudguard (which was not present in Flyte), bigger oval eye shaped clear lens front indicators, small chrome plated designing element right at the chest of the scooter, a Mahindra badge and number plate on the front with a lot of design curves running around and glitzy decals to give that flamboyant look. Mahindra Rodeo is available in attractive seven colours. These include Deep Ocean Blue, Forest Green, Blazing Red, Cappuccino Brown, Majestic Maroon, Golden Beige and Fiery Black.

Mahindra Duro
Duro, the scooter again finds inspiration from its bigger sibling, the Kinetic Nova. The overall design makes the scooter look a little big especially from the rear with a sweet looking front. Duro has been made basic but the amount of detailing which has gone into the designing is praiseworthy. Both the scooters look fantastic but Rodeo steals the show for us. Build quality seems to be very good especially on the Duro. The power scooter, Mahindra Duro has various colour options such as Golden Beige, Pearl White , Fiery Black , Mystique Grey , Cappuccino Brown and Majestic Maroon

Mahindra Kine
The new avatar of Kine is fitted with a 2 stroke, single cylinder, air cooled engine along with 71.5cc of displacement. This compact powerplant of the Mahindra Kine 80cc pumps out 3.8 bhp of peak power at 5,500 rpm and develops 5.0 Nm of top torque at 4500 rpm.Mahindra Kine 80cc is provided with a 4 litre of fuel tank. As per the engine and other specifications of the scooter, it might deliver around 55 kmpl of fuel economy in city. Less weight and small tyres would be responsible for more fuel efficiency.The all new Mahindra Kine 80cc has been introduced in four colour options. These colours are black, sporty red, fresh green and pink.

Mahindra Flyte

The new Mahindra Flyte is an ideal product offering for its target audience the Youth.Flyte is powered with a 125 cc engine and boasts of cool features like Front fuelling, 4-in-1 key, largest storage space and telescopic suspension to make it a comfortable, convenient and smooth ride. To add to this, body coloured impact resistant mirrors and vibrant colours for its TG add to the products overall appeal. The Mahindra Flyte is available in a choice of five elegant colour options Red Oomph, Black Mystique, Jade Charisma, Lavender Groove and Silver Flash.

Objective of Research
To find out the scooty brands available in Dimapur. To find out the availability of spare parts and accessories in Dimapur showroom. To find out the most selling brands in Dimapur market. To find out the satisfaction level of consumers on the basis of after sale service. To carry out study on the demographic profile of people using scooty. To find out the awareness level of customers regarding scooty. To study the factors responsible for preferring either HONDA,MAHINDRA, TVS or other scooty by customers. To analyze the customer satisfaction. To analyze the customer preference.

RESEARCH METHODOLOGY
Type of Research: For conducting research, I have used, DESCRIPTIVE RESEARCH. SAMPLING TECHNIQUE: Random sampling method was used to collect data from the respondents (those using scooty).

DATA COLLECTION TOOL: Two types of sources are used in this project work: 1. PRIMARY DATA 2. SECONDARY DATA 1. PRIMARY DATA: As it is known that primary data are collected a fresh and for the first time, and thus happen to be original in character. So, in order to collect methods used are: QUESTIONNAIRE method for consumers INTERVIEW method for showroom manager 2. SECONDARY DATA: Secondary data are those which already exist and which have been collected for some purpose. In this project the vital sources for collecting secondary data are: Websites of companies and Wikipedia.org SAMPLE SIZE I have used sampling method for survey purpose. The sample size for questionnaire is 75 but only 60 of them have responded. FIELD AREA This research study work is carried out in Dimapur.

Scooty showroom details and brands available in Dimapur Honda Showroom


It is located at Fellowship Colony, circular road. The brands presently available are: Honda Activa ( available in pearl sunbeam white, metallic, black, lucid red, force silver metallic, wild purple metallic and geny grey colour) Honda Aviator ( available in Monsoon Grey Metallic, Rebel Red Metallic and Pearl Black colour) Honda Eterno ( available in vibrant black, plasma silver metallic, geny grey metallic colour ) Honda Pleasure ( available in candy blazing red, sports red, monotone black, dual tone black, light purple and force silver colour) The showroom has a garage of its own. Spare parts are almost available but accessories are unavailable. Even sometime on consumer demand they make the spare parts & accessories available but the lead time is 15 days to one month.It sales almost 115 scooties a month on an average of approximately 4 scooties a day. The most demanding & selling brand in Dimapur market is Honda Activa.

TVS Showroom
M/S Dimapur TVS. It is located in Purana Bazar below Axis Bank. The Brands presently available are: Scooty pep+ (available in Electric Red,Purple Mischief, Night Black colour) Scooty streak (available in red, blue, black colour) The showroom has a garage of its own. Spare parts and accessories are unavailable. On consumer demand they make the spare parts & accessories available but the lead time is one to two month.It sales almost 52

scooties a month on an average of approximately 2 scooties a day. The most demanding & selling brand in Dimapur market is Scooty streak.

Mahindra Showroom
M/S Reliance Motors. It is located near D.C. court junction. The presently available brands are: Mahindra Rodeo (available in Blazing Red, Cappuccino Brown, Majestic Maroon, and Fiery Black colour.) Mahindra Kine (available in black, sporty red, fresh green and pink colour) Mahindra Duro (available in Pearl White , Fiery Black , Mystique Grey , Cappuccino Brown and Majestic Maroon colour) Mahindra Flyte (available in Red Oomph, Black Mystique, Lavender Groove and Silver Flash colour) The showroom has a garage of its own. Spare parts are almost available but accessories are unavailable. Even sometime on consumer demand they make the spare parts & accessories available but the lead time is 15 days. KEY FINDINGS

1. Majority of the people have Honda scooty which are followed by Mahindra scooty and others. Honda scooty has captured a large portion of market in respect of other company. 2. The most considering factor while purchasing a scooty are look, brand, mileage, price and service in their respective order. 3. Most of the people are satisfied with scootys performance but not with after sales services which they are getting after purchasing a scooty from any distributor in Dimapur. 4. Majority of the people are satisfied with the brand which they owned and they dont want to change it for any reason. 5. The word of mouth is stronger for Honda scooty then Mahindra and TVS. 6. Majority of the respondents are not satisfied with the availability of spare parts in Dimapur. 7. Majority of the people using scooty are of the age group 25-35 years. 8. Majority of the scooty users are service holders. 9. Advertisement influences purchase decision.

LIMITATIONS Although every effort is made to make the result accurate but almost all report suffers from certain limitations. The result which I obtained from this study, also suffers from certain limitations. The limitations of this study are as follows. 1. The first limitation is time. Only few weeks of time was allocated for research work which is quiet inadequate. 2. My sample size is small. 3. Some respondents were not ready to share their views. 4. Some respondents were not educated thus getting the data from them was a very tough job. 5. Dealers as well as customers did not reveal some of the relevant fact.

CONCLUSION I have conducted my study to find out the demographic profile, awareness level and factors responsible for purchasing between Mahindra, TVS and Honda scooty. As over my findings I came to know following factors 1. Honda is the market leader of scooty, especially due to its Honda activa. 2. Mahindra comes second in the list of market leaders and is readily attracting the attention of people. 3. Majority of customers feel the price of scooty, look, mileage,service, brand are the factors which attracts them toward purchasing the particular scooty. 4. Majority of people are satisfied with their scooty. However more skilled mechanics should be employed as after sales service is not satisfactory. 6. Most of the customers are having scooty for education and job (service + business) purposes 7. More people want to suggest Honda scooty to others.

RECOMMENDATIONS AND SUGGESTIONS Since more people are buying the scooty for education and job purposes so if companies provide some offers then they can increase their market shares. The customers of TVS are not equally satisfied as comparison to Hero Honda or Mahindra so it should focus on relationship building with customers by providing them some free service camps or by any other medium. Companies should provide spare parts and accessories availability. Majority of people are satisfied with their scooty. However more skilled mechanics should be employed as after sales service is not satisfactory. Lead time should be decreased.
