Article 1 Corporal Punishment as a Stressor among Youth Heather A. Turner and David Finkelhor Journal of Marriage and Family, Vol. 58, No. 1 (Feb., 1996), pp. 155-166 This article explains the major role that corporal punishment plays in a childs. It goes into detail to explain the negative effects that corporal punishment has on the behavior of children whether the child receives corporal punishment more or less than normal, it still has an effect on the child. The article discusses the emotional and psychological stress that children undergo and the relation between parental support and corporal punishment. There are findings that are discussed throughout the article that reveals that children who receive corporal punishment are more likely to express some of the (violent) acts that were expressed onto them to the people they come in contact with. The article provides information about children experiencing stress when they are victims of corporal punishment; however, it specifically aims to prove that children ages ten through sixteen are psychologically (i.e. depression) affected by corporal punishment.

Article 2 Regional Differences in Attitudes toward Corporal Punishment Clifton P. Flynn Journal of Marriage and Family, Vol. 56, No. 2 (May, 1994), pp. 314-324 The article describes in full detail how Americans feel about corporal punishment of children. It provides results from a survey that was given to individuals in different regions in the world. The survey shows the percentages of each regions response to whether or not they agree with corporal punishment. To conduct the survey, the article explains that each region was separated and the attitudes of the respondents within each region were measured. The article explains to readers that the Southern region agreed with corporal punishment more than any other region; however, Americans as a whole strongly support corporal punishment. The article goes on to discuss the long-term effects that corporal punishment has had on older children (college students) as well. The article summarized how every region felt about corporal punishment.

Article 3 The Effects of Corporal Punishment on Antisocial Behavior in Children. Grogan-Kaylor, A. (2004). Social Work Research, 28(3), 153. The Article highlights the effects that corporal punishment has on children who are categorized as anti-social. Upon reading the article, readers will understand how corporal punishment affects children who are anti-social and whether or not the effects that corporal punishment has on those specific children pertain to a specific race or all races. In the article there is also evidence to back the writers facts up; the writer provides charts of the surveys that were taken to measure childrens behavioral problems alongside the ethnic group that they belong to. The childrens ethnic groups are presented to show that race also plays a part in the affect that corporal punishment has on anti-social behavior. The information provided in the article argues that corporal punishment have a major affect on the anti-social behavior of children.

Article 4 Spankers and Nonspankers: Where They Get Information on Spanking Wendy Walsh Family Relations, Vol. 51, No. 1 (Jan., 2002), pp. 81-88 The article aims directly at the parents who condone corporal punishment based on the information or approval that they receive from individuals who specialize in disciplining children. In the article, you will be presented with explanations to why parents feel the need to use corporal punishment to discipline their children. In the article, there is also information provided for you regarding where parents receive their parenting skills from and whether or not they are effective. The article discusses the consequences of not only spanking, but the importance of parents perception of what disciplining their children consist of. The article specifically interprets the positive and negative affect that corporal punishment and non-corporal punishment has on children. The article shows that the route that parents choose to take to discipline their children is very important.

Article 5 The Discipline Controversy Revisited Diana Baumrind Family Relations, Vol. 45, No. 4 (Oct., 1996), pp. 405-414 This articles main focus is to enable individuals to adhere to the controversies that have been in existence for quite some time. The issue is that some parents view corporal punishment as an

effective way to discipline their children and some people argue that corporal punishment does nothing more than negatively affect children. The article enables people to understand what corporal punishment has to do with the developmental stages of a child and how their developmental stages are affected by the way that they are being disciplined. The article also enables readers to receive a better understanding of what corporal punishment does. Corporal punishment, as discussed in this article, has an effect on a childs character and behavior. A child may be negatively or positively affected by punishment but it depends upon the childs way of reacting in result to the corporal punishment that they receive.
