Enhancements
This section describes enhancements for the firmware 8.0.4.04.00 release.

Increased fabric size support

The H-series switches now support fabrics with a maximum of 30 switches and a maximum of seven hops (eight switches) between any two communicating devices.

Transparent Router
Transparent Router (TR) functionally provides seamless and transparent connectivity of H-series switches to HP B-series fabrics and HP C-series fabrics. TR functionality allows each 8 Gb/s port on the H-series switch to be configured as a TR port, enabling the sharing of server and storage resources between SANs through the industry-standard NPIV protocol. TR functionality eliminates the support and management challenges of E_Port switch interoperability. TR functionality also provides a higher level of security by ensuring that only customer-specified devices are visible and shareable between fabrics. For more information on supported B-series or C-series switches, see the HP StorageWorks SAN Design Reference Guide located on the HP website http://www.hp.com/go/sandesignguide or contact an HP storage representative.

Fixes
The following issues have been fixed in this release (since the release of firmware version 8.0.2.02.00). The PortWWN field in the Devices tab in QuickTools did not always update to show N/Awhen a port was configured as a Donor port. When the maximum SMI-S connections are configured, the SMI-S listener could timeout and E_Ports could be taken offline and then back online. A switch port connected to an HP StorageWorks 81E PCle FC HBA (LPe12000 HBA) or HP StorageWorks 82E PCle FC HBA (Lpe12002 HBA) reported bad frames, CRC, or Decode errors when the switch port was set offline, and then back online. QuickTools was unable to rename the New Folder created in a save dialog box due to a Sun Java bug #6709449, which was introduced in version 1.6.0_04. In QuickTools, if the open file option in the edit zoning dialog was chosen, text disappeared when the scroll bar was used to see files to the right due to Sun Java bugs #6684952 and #6578753, which were introduced in 1.6.0_02.

Installation instructions

Important information
This section provides important information about the H-series switches. Simple SAN Connection Manager Support. The Simple SAN Connection Manager (SSCM) application version 3.00 is the minimum required for the HP SN6000 Fibre Channel Switch, and is the recommended version for the HP 8/20q Fibre Channel Switch. SSCM version 2.10 and later can manage the 8/20q Fibre Channel Switch, and version 3.00 or later can manage the SN6000 Fibre Channel Switch, with active transparent router ports (TR_Ports). However, SSCM does not manage or discover remote switches or devices in the remote fabric.

HP StorageWorks H-series SN6000 Fibre Channel Switch Release Notes

When using QuickTools with a large fabric, Java memory errors can occur. To avoid this issue, increase the Java heap size as follows: 1. Open the Java control panel. 2. 3. 4. 5. Select the Java tab. Under Java Applet Runtime Settings, click View. Double-click Java Runtime Parameters, and then enter -Xmx300m in the box. Click OK.

When booting a server running SUSE 9 with Emulex-based HBA, and using TR connections with storage on a remote fabric, the storage might not be completely discovered by the server. This occurs when the I/O scan completes before the server has logged into the storage. To correct this condition, ensure that HP fibreutils are installed, and use the hp_rescan -a command to rescan all of the adapters in the system. When connecting an HP StorageWorks MSA2000fc, MSA2000fc G2, or P2000 G3 FC Modular Smart Array System to an H-series switch, the switch ports are presented as hosts in the storage unit GUI. This occurs because by default, the H-series switch executes a Device Scan, where the switch logs into connected devices and queries them for information. The storage units then present the switch WWN as a host. This can be avoided by disabling Device Scan on the switch port before connecting the storage port to the switch port. If the storage port is connected before disabling Device Scan and the switch ports are presented as hosts, you can remove a host entry for the switch by disabling Device Scan on the switch port and rebooting the storage controller. The status of the host changes to discovered=no, and then it can be removed. HBA Connection may not recover after switch port goes offline. Connection may not recover after a switch port is set offline and back online when connected to an HP StorageWorks 81E PCle FC HBA (LPe12000 HBA) or HP StorageWorks 82E PCle FC HBA (LPe12002 HBA) for hosts running VMware 3.5.0. This issue is corrected with Emulex driver version elx_7.4.0.39 or later, available on the Emulex website and on the VMware website. HBA may not discover storage target on remote fabric. An Emulex-based HBA running on SUSE 9 does not always find targets on remote fabrics after booting the server. This issue is corrected with Emulex driver version 8.0.16.40_p2 or later. The affected HBAs include: HP StorageWorks 81E PCle FC HBA HP StorageWorks 82E PCle FC HBA HP StorageWorks FC2143 HP StorageWorks FC2243 HP StorageWorks FC2142SR HP StorageWorks FC2242SR HP 4Gb HBA for HP c-Class BladeSystem HP Emulex-based BL20p Fibre Channel Mezz HBA HP Emulex-based BL25/30/35/45p Fibre Channel Mezz HBA Optical transceivers. Only the HP 8-Gb Short Wave FC SFP+ (part number AJ718A), HP 8-Gb Long Wave 10 km FC SFP+ (part number AW584A), and HP 4-Gb Short Wave FC SFP (part number A7446B) tranceivers are supported for use in the H-series switches. Each switch Fibre Channel port is supported by a data buffer with a 16 credit capacity; that is, 16 maximum sized frames. With the use of a long wave transceiver, this enables full bandwidth over approximately: 3.3 kilometers at 8 Gb/s (4.8 credits/km)

6.6 kilometers at 4 Gb/s (2.4 credits/km) 10 kilometers (limited by the transceiver capability) at 2 Gb/s (1.2 credits/km) The 8-Gb transceivers do not support 1 Gb/s port speed. If the port speed is configured as 1 Gb/s, the port is disabled and its state will be changed to Downed. To correct this, you can configure the port to a supported speed (2 Gb/s, 4 Gb/s, 8 Gb/s, or auto-detect). QuickTools stops responding after changing the switch IP address. If you change the IP address of a switch when using QuickTools to access that switch, the QuickTools session at the old IP address stops responding. To access the switch with the new IP address using QuickTools, enter the new IP address in a new browser window. Java must be enabled in the browser for QuickTools to launch. If Java support or Java scripting support is disabled in the browser, QuickTools will not launch. Ensure that Java support is enabled and/or Java scripting support is enabled. NOTE: The scripting support is called Enable JavaScript in most browsers and Active scripting or Active Web Content in Internet Explorer. When running QuickTools, Java plug-in caching of temporary files and applets should be disabled. Java caching can cause the wrong version of QuickTools to run. When running QuickTools, Java plug-in caching of temporary files and applets should be disabled. If caching is enabled and a different version of QuickTools is loaded from a switch, the version of QuickTools previously run will load from the cache instead. Also, QuickTools could erroneously display the version number just loaded from the switch. NOTE: If you have Java plug-in caching disabled and you upgrade your Java version, caching may become enabled and will have to be disabled again. Information from some devices connected to a switch is not displayed by QuickTools: Some connected device information, displayed by clicking the information icon (i) in the Details column of the Devices Data window (accessed by clicking the Devices tab), is shown as Undefined or Data Unavailable. This usually occurs because the information is not provided by the connected device. There are also some instances where the device model appears with the Vendor name. Some connected device information displayed in the Vendor column of the Devices Data window includes the device model with the Vendor name. The connected device information in the Target/Initiator column of the Devices Data window is displayed as Unknown for the MSA1000, MSA1500, XP10000/12000, and XP20000/24000. Deactivating a zoneset may cause reversion to soft zoning. Zoning is hardware enforced (hard zoning) only when the following conditions are satisfied: A port/device is a member of no more than eight zones whose combined membership is 64 or less. The sum of the logged in devices plus the devices zoned with devices on that port is 64 or less. If these conditions are not satisfied, that switch port reverts to software enforced zoning (soft zoning).

HP StorageWorks H-series SN6000 Fibre Channel Switch Release Notes

If the active zoneset is deactivated, where the fabric has more than 64 devices and default zoning is configured to ALLOW, the default zone created when the zoneset is deactivated will have more than 64 members. This may cause the switch ports connected to these devices to revert to soft zoning and remain soft zoned after the activation of a zoneset. Avoid inadvertently exceeding the limits of the zoning database. Having many or large inactive zonesets may cause the switch to exceed its zoning database limits upon deactivation and activation of the zonesets. If this occurs, you may see the error message "Activation failed, SFC failure received from remote switch ...". To avoid this, the best practice is to manage the fabric from a single switch and enable the Discard Inactive attribute for the other switches in the fabric. Fabrics that cross time zones. If you have fabrics that cross time zones, be aware that it causes time stamp differences in the various switch logs. Changing date/time. If you are not using NTP to manage the date/time and manually change the date/time and then change the time zone, the subsequent date/time will be incorrect. To avoid this, change the time zone first and then the date/time. Security Secrets are not included when a switch configuration is restored. A switch configuration backup does not archive the primary or secondary secrets for any security groups. As a result, the security secrets need to be reconfigured using the CLI after executing config restore. Otherwise, the restored switch will isolate from the fabric due to the missing secrets. Enabling SSH on a switch for the first time. When enabling SSH on a switch for the first time, the login session may become unresponsive for a short amount of time, depending on how busy the switch CPU is performing its usual functions. After this one-time occurrence of delay, the switch session resumes normal operations. Port statistics differences between CLI and SNMP. Port statistics are displayed from the output of 64-bit port counters in CLI, but SNMP is only allowed, by MIB definition, to display 32-bit counter outputs. The SNMP data will not match the CLI data once the values exceed 4,294,967,295, which is the limit of a 32-bit counter. Avoid inadvertently closing QuickTools when running QuickTools with Windows Internet Explorer. If you open a file using Windows Internet Explorer, when the page is brought up in the same Windows Internet Explorer browser window, QuickTools automatically closes. To avoid this, open a second Internet Explorer browser window after loading QuickTools in the first Internet Explorer browser window. If you disable QuickTools through the System Services dialog while in a QuickTools session. You will still be able to manage the switch while in the current browser session. You must close the current browser to completely enable the change. If you use IPv6 addressing and Microsoft Internet Explorer to access your switch using QuickTools. Internet Explorer 7.0 or later is required if the switch is using an IPv6 address. If you are running QuickTools from a browser other than Windows Internet Explorer. You will need to set the browser location for your particular browser in order to open the online help. The browser location may be set through the Preferences dialog. QuickTools may not display devices for switch with Domain ID of 255. QuickTools intermittently is unable to display devices in the Devices tab or Edit Zoning window with a switch Domain ID of 255. If this occurs, close the QuickTools session, and then start a new QuickTools session. SMI-S Indication is not sent when deleting a switch.This can occur when the SMI-S agent switch is not the principal switch in the fabric. To avoid this condition, ensure that the SMI-S agent switch is the principal switch in the fabric. A CLI session could have erroneously repetitious output. If a CLI session is open to a switch with IPv6 enabled and IPv4 disabled, and SSCM is used to enable IPv4, command result: 0a141e28 is repeated within the CLI session, where 0a141e28 is the hexadecimal representation of the IPv4 address. If this occurs, close the CLI session and open a new one.

SNMP may provide an incorrect IP address. When the switch IP address has been changed, and this information is queried using SNMP (connUnitURL .1.3.6.1.3.94.1.6.1.10), the returned value is not correct. To update the IP address in SNMP, execute a switch reset. CAUTION: Resetting the switch is a disruptive action and should be planned for accordingly. The switch can have difficulty communicating with a DHCPv6 server with certain options enabled. To correct this, comment out the following lines of the server.conf file on the DHCPv6 server host: # provide VoIP parameter (SIP protocol servers and domain names) # option sip-server 2000::300,2000::302,2000::303,2000::304 # option sip-domain sip1.example.com,sip2.example.com
nl nl nl

# provide NIS information (server addresses and domain name) # option nis-server 2000::400,2000::401,2000::404,2000::405,2000::405 # option nis-domain nis.example.com
nl nl nl

# provide NIS+ information (server addresses and domain name) # option nis+-server 2000::501,2000::502 # option nis+-domain nisplus.example.com

While running QuickTools, if the IP address of the entry switch is changed, online help will not open. To access the online help, close the current QuickTools session and reopen QuickTools using the new IP address. When a new fabric is added, the Fabric Status Bar may incorrectly show a warning condition related to Nicknames differ . This warning goes away once the fabric is fully discovered and nickname conflicts between switches are resolved.
