has been the sire or grandsire to many of the horses in the herd. About 10 years ago, Four Star Rodeo Company had the good fortune of acquiring a keen little mare named Beaver Gaskins, who really enjoys her job (bucking off cowboys). She works less than 16 seconds per week. Whether throwing off cowboys or taking them to the pay window, she continues to do it with style. To be a really good horse, whether it is racehorse, cow horse or bucking horse, they have to like what they do. Thats what makes them great, you cant make a horse buck if he or she doesnt want to, Jeff Davis said. Be ready for exciting, rockin and rollin rodeo when Four Star Rodeo Company returns to the COURTESY RICH RUEF Wild West Stampede. If you have never attended a rodeo, you may need some help figuring out what is happening, where the scores come from or why a cowboy was penalized. Professional rodeo announcer Steve Kenyon has been a fixture in professional rodeo for nearly 20 years, appearing at more than 40 rodeos and related events a year. Hell give you the scoop on the cowboys and the livestock, and have a laugh with the rodeo clown, all the while keeping track of the scores and
times. Kenyon announced his first rodeo in 1985, and since then has become the voice at some of the premier events in the Professional Rodeo Cowboys Association. Kenyon has announced the Columbia River Circuit Finals Rodeo seven times and hes been behind the microphone at PRCA Small Rodeo of the Year award-win-
ning events in Casper, Wyo., and Clear Lake, S.D., and the Tribute to Chris LeDoux Pro Rodeo in Wyoming. In 2010, Kenyon was named Announcer of the Year by the Womens Professional Rodeo Association, and is a recipient of the PRCA Media Award. In 2008, Kenyon started producing live broadcasts of Professional Rodeos signature events, including the only complete live broadcast of the Wrangler National Finals Rodeo. His schedule includes major rodeos and roping events broadcast on the Internet and radio stations, and can be found at www.prorodeolive.com. Steve Kenyon keeps the crowd informed.

Saddle Bronc Riding is a classic rodeo event in which a cowboy uses strength and timing to stay on a horse attempting to buck him off.
Cowboys and cowgirls come together each year to put their skills to the test. Each event is judged based on a variety of criteria, and riders work both individually and as teams
ranches of the Old West. Every move the bronc rider makes must be synchronized with the movement of the horse. The cowboy's objective is a fluid ride, somewhat in contrast to the wilder and less-controlled rides of bareback riders. To properly mark out his horse,

Steer Wrestling
The objective of the steer wrestler, who is also known as a bulldogger, is to use strength and technique to wrestle a steer to the ground as quickly as possible. At the time the two come together, theyre both traveling bout 30 miles per hour. The bulldogger starts on horseback in a box. To catch the sprinting steer, the cowboy uses a hazer, who is another mounted cowboy who gallops his horse along the right side of the steer and keeps it from veering away from the bulldogger. Bareback Riding
Bareback riders endure more abuse, suffer more injuries and carry away more long-term damage than all other rodeo cowboys. It has been compared to riding a jackhammer with one hand. As the bronc and rider burst from the chute, the rider must have both spurs touching the horses shoulders, called marking out. A bareback rider

In Tie-Down Roping, the cowboy must rope a calf as quickly as possible. As soon as a catch is made, the cowboy dismounts, sprints to the calf and tosses it on its side, which is called flanking. With a small rope, or pigging string, any three of the calf's legs are tied securely.
