On-Line Path Terrain Profiler Tool

This tool will generate path profile information and email the results to you in the form of a .DAT file which is then loaded into the Link Estimator tool. This data was obtained from the space shuttle mission in February 2000. The synthetic aperture radar collected data with horizontal resolution of 10 meters and a vertical accuracy of 10 meters.

Link Estimator Summary

Space diversity can improve throughput and availability in paths which are over water and flat terrain. Several space diversity configuration options are available depending on the link requirements and the users budget. Non-Line of Sight throughput and availability can be accurately predicted using the Link Estimator tool. The tool provides the flexibility to do what if scenarios by raising the antenna heights and increasing the antenna sizes.

Fixed Frequency Mode

Use fixed frequency mode in complex hub sites where there are existing FDD radios that are not frequency agile Choose frequencies that are close to the center channels of the existing FDD radios In clear LoS applications use of single pole antenna is ok. Place a 50 Ohm terminator on unused radio port. Minimum recommended antenna separation 10 from other 5.8GHz antennas Adjust Tx power when co-locating many radios if possible

Techniques to Combat Interference

Use Connectorized radios and the largest antennas possible. Consider High Performance Antennas
Larger antennas provide a narrower beam and higher gain. Provides the maximum rejection of undesirable noise.

Use natural obstructions to shield antennas from each other.

(i.e. air conditioning units, penthouses, etc.)

Design networks to achieve maximum angular discrimination when possible
