Digital Axle Counter Issues Raised By WCR:

1. Steps to be given in the form of flow chart for attending the failures:

Noted. Action is already in hand.

2. Dos and Donts for maintenance: Noted. Action is already in hand. 3. Sometimes, while trying the system for reset in case of failure, there is

indication that reset has been accepted but the system is not reset in real sense: Reset box modification is going on to correct this problem.
4. The design and colour of mushroom DP needs to be revised to allow

heat dissipation: Noted being looked into.

5. This equipment does not have fault diagnostic indication with reset box

as available with CEL: Reset box related issues like reset acceptance, diagnostic indication are taken and under developmental stage for incorporation
6. This equipment goes into the hang mode some times and cannot be

reset from the reset box. S&T staff has to go physically to the DPs and cut off the power supply for resetting the axle counter: Noted being looked into.
7. Counter is increasing every time when button is pressed for resetting,

but Axle Counter is not I being resetted due to failure. This issue has been discussed with the firm. They have suggested since circuit of reset box is approved by RDSO, the modification can be done with the approval of RDSO. As per item (vi).
8. Suitable lightening and surge protection should be available to MS

DAC(flash ROM), SSDAC etc. Noted being looked into.

9. There is an arrangement to adjust reference voltage at site by means of

a screwed potentiometer. There is no arrangement to lock this potentiometer at ,.the 'adjusted position and due to the vibrations at site by trains' movement, it gets changed ,some times: Noted being looked into.
10.

Track device unit touching with wheel flange: Noted and action is being initiated to resolve the issue Presently, quad cable from Tx/ Rx Coils is terminated on ARA terminals and from ARA terminals another cable is connected to the coupler. This discontinuity gives rise to a substantial exposure of the twisted pair cable, which does not remain strictly on a twisted pair, and

11.

hence becomes vulnerable to EM!. This was seen in installation at Kachhapura yard jointly by CEL and Railway tf'am. The proper arrangement would be to directly terminate the cable from the coils on the coupler of the evaluator. However, such direct termination do~s not have the facility of measuremet of Tx/ Rx voltages and frequencies. A coupler (or any other arrangement) which can provide measurement terminals also should be provided, and then the cable can be terminated directly on the coupler: Wiring and connections according to TAN li001 dt 04.10.2011. (Copy enclosed) should be done. Terminations should be done only by cage clamp type connectors.
12.

It is also seen on the installation that !the cables were not properly fitted into I the coupler. The clamp at the beginning of the coupler is supposed to hold tight the whole cable including the sheath, so that the conductors are not in a stress. The clamps have been left unused by the OEM with the result that all the connected wires are bearing the load of the cable. This is likely to cause problem in connections and give rise to failures: Issue is being taken up with M/s CEL The display unit of the reset box goes defective very frequently: Noted being looked into.
