OBJECTIVE
To study the advantages of fully automated reservation system over manual data entry system. Manual system : The system is very time consuming and lazy. This system is more prone to errors and sometimes the approach to various problems is unstructured. Technical system : With the advent of latest technology if we do not update our system then our business result in losses gradually with time. The technical systems contains the tools of latest trend i.e. computers printers, fax, Internet etc. The systems with this technology are very fast, accurate, user-friendly and reliable. . Need of Airlines system A few factors that directs us to develop a new system are given below -: 1) Faster System 2) Accuracy 3) Reliability 4) Informative 5) Reservations and cancellations from any where to any place

SYSTEM DESIGN

The E-R diagram of the process was designed, in order to identify various entities and relationship set, entity set and attributers. The diagram of the process is as under. After this step we had designed the data base. The symbol of entities are shown bellow:

Entities (& Attributes):

The purpose of this system is to monitor and analyze the airline reservation and cancellation system. The basic operation of the system is a passenger enquires about the flight, availability, fare and other features. Hence the PASSENGER forms the 1st entity. Based on the situation, either a confirm ticket is booked or

Page | 6

the passenger is put in wait list. Thus the TICKET is 2nd entity of the system. The ticket booked is associated with a particular flight, so FLIGHT is the 3rd entity. These are the basic entities and respective attributes of the airline reservation system: 1. Passenger 2. Ticket 3. Flight To complete the data model, we must determine a necessary relationship between entities as well as attributes for each entity. The ERD model shows the entities and relationships described above. PASSENGER: 1. A PASSENGER has a unique Passenger Number which acts as its Primary Key. 2. Other attributes of PASSENGER includes Name, Address, Contact No. and Passport No. TICKET: 1. A TICKET has a unique Ticket Number which acts as its Primary Key. 2. Other attributes of TICKET includes Date, Class, Day. 3. Flight No. & Passenger No. will act as foreign key for entity TICKET. FLIGHT: 1. A FLIGHT has two attributes Flight Number & Date which acts as its Composite Key. 2. Other attributes of FLIGHT includes From, To, Seats and Fare.

Binary Relationships:

Flight

There exist 2 binary relations for this ER model: a) The Binary relation between Passenger & Ticket is a 1 to many relation as a Passenger may book 1 or more ticket but the ticket has only 1 passenger as its holder. b) The Binary relation between Ticket & Flight is a many to 1 relation as a Ticket is valid only for a particular Flight but a Flight may include many Tickets for its flying.

Excelsheet for Flight frequency analysis

The most frequently flying Airplane is Flight no. 2, hence can be concluded that it requires maximum maintenance.

Page | 20

The Veg category of food is preferred by 30 people against only 19 opting for Non-Veg, hence management should more take care towards the Veg Food department.

The From City Analysis gives the result that the highest no of flights boarded are starting from Hyderabad.

Page | 21

The To City Analysis shows that Hyderabad being used by 24 passengers as their destination is the highest used place.

ADVANTAGES OF THE SYSTEM

1. The online reservation system helped to overcome many shortcomings of manual system like commitment of errors, slow processing, large cost incurred on labour etc. 2. In today competitive world, online processing gave an edge to certain airlines to survive in the market through reduction of distribution costs, establishment of huge databases with easy accessibility and maintenance, increased cost savings. 3. The online ticket booking service serves the customers with a feature rich, user friendly online experience. Attracting more customers and customer retention is the mantra for survival today. It increases CRM in airline industry. 4. It also reduces communication costs and minimizes booking expenses. 5. There is reduction in the number of customer queries and helps to minimize support costs. 6. Language compatibility can be adopted with minimal effort. 7. Airlines can use the available database to gain the competitive edge by analyzing market trends and determining yield trends.

8. It helps to maximize the effectiveness of the entire operation with complete departure control. Airlines of all sizes will have the entire live flight department at their fingertips.

CONCLUSION
Based on the preparation & analysis of Automated Airline Reservation System, it can be concluded that Automated System is better than Manuel System (listed as various Advantages above) & this Automated System helps with significant facts & figures to take important decisions concerned with the various parameters of the business line.
