Congratulations to Katherine Yang for placing 1st in Extemporaneous Speaking in the NC SkillsUSA Competition! Congratulations students, parents, and staff on a great Graduation Project Night!! Firebirds RISE: Thanks for turning in lost items that you find on campus. The owner appreciates it when they come to the office and their lost item was turned in! Keep being a person of integrity!! Calendar dates to note: 1. TONIGHT April 24: CHS Night at the Hickory Crawdads. Activity buses leave for game at 5:00 p.m. See Mr. McPhail for information about the activity bus and a permission form. The game starts at 6 p.m. Student and family tickets are on sale in the office. Parent pickup at the stadium activity bus isnt bringing students back to school. This is a great way to spend time as a school family. 2. THIS THURSDAY April 26: CHS Performing Arts Department Concert (Music Concert and Dance Troupes.) St. Lukes Methodist Church, Viewmont, 7 p.m. Come out and support the music and dance groups! 3. THIS FRIDAY April 27: CHS Firebird Theatre BUY-OUT. Students can pay to see the play for $2 and not attend class during the time of the play. Tickets will be on sale in the office. Be the first to see the spring play during the school day on Friday! 4. THIS SATURDAY April 28: UNCG and ZOO Fieldtrip. Enjoy a day at UNCG and the NC ZOO! SENIORS: Each senior that is graduating (whether you plan to participate in Graduation or not) will need to meet individually with Mrs. Osborne in April. Stop by her office to sign up for an appointment. If you missed your appointment already, sign up for another one ASAP. CVCC exams are next week! Every student should be diligently planning and studying this week! Use your best study skills this week!!! See Mr. Rutherford if you need flash cards and/or highlighters! . Looking ahead: 1. April 30 May 4: CVCC exams 2. May 1 May 16: Textbooks can be returned to Mrs. Hudson in the Firebird Office. Please have the Textbook Student Receipt filled out when you come to the office. May 6: Graduation Event: Baccalaureate, Startown First Baptist Church, Newton, 2 p.m. 5. May 6: Graduation Event: Senior Picnic, Southside Park, Newton, 4 p.m. 6. May 10: Student Led Conferences (Mandatory for all F2F high school classes.) PAA Family schedule that day. 7. May 11, 14: High School Final Exams (Attend school if you have an exam.) 8. May 15, 16: High School EOCs (Attend school if you have an EOC.) 9. May 17: Senior Sendoff!! Regular school day, Mandatory attendance for Freshman S2, sign-in and sign-out rules apply. Day includes: Academic Awards Assembly, PAA Family End of School Parties, PAA Family activities and competitions. 10. May 18: Graduation Event: Graduation Practice, 1 p.m., Mandatory for all walking graduates 11. May 19: Graduation Event: Commencement Ceremony, 10 a.m. in the Tarlton Complex. YEARBOOK: Pre-order your 2011-2012 Yearbook with Mrs. Hudson in the office. Yearbooks are $50.00. Checks are made to CHS. All students can submit potential Yearbook pictures to Mrs. Robbins at Deanne_Robbins@catawbaschools.net The Yearbook Staff is looking for pictures from the Early Bird Days and other school events.

The last Feedback Session with Ms. Benfield for the school year is Thursday, May 3 in the Auditorium at 4:10 p.m. Please join Ms. Benfield in the Auditorium to give her your feedback, reflections, and thoughts about the how things are going at school, your reflections on the school year, and schools future. FROM YOUR PSO: Volunteers needed: Every Monday, CHS needs volunteers from 9:30 a.m. 10:30 a.m. to monitor the Firebird Office and Nest. Volunteers are needed to work concessions at select Hickory Crawdads games in March and April. Please email bollies@embarqmail.com to sign-up. Volunteers are needed for set up and clean up at the Senior Picnic on May 6. Please email the Committee Chair, Alan, at alanmalanowski@USConec.com for more information. We are participating in the Valley Hills Mall My School's Cool program!! We could be awarded up to $5,000!! Shop on Wednesday and we get TRIPLE points for ALL retail purchases! EAT on TUESDAY OR THURSDAY and we will get TRIPLE points for every food court purchased! We only get points if receipts are turned in to the CHS locker or Nest.
