Assessor: NICK SMITH Date due: 14/10/10

Brief: In this project you will be asked to design static menus for three DVDs aimed at different audiences and with different requirements. You will need to produce designs that effectively use the codes and conventions investigated in Assignment 1. In each case you will be asked to produce a short commentary explaining your design decisions and how you have used the codes and conventions. You are to produce designs for the following DVDs: A of episodes of an imaginary childrens animated TV series. This should feature a Main Menu with a Play All button, a link to a Scene select submenu which allows you to choose individual episodes and a link to an interactive educational game based on the series. The series must be imaginary and NOT an existing childrens TV series. An historical or nature documentary series. You can choose the exact era or aspect of nature covered but they do have to be specified. This menu needs only a Main Menu and a link to a Scene select submenu that allows the user to choose individual episodes. A compilation of an imaginary musicians music videos. This must include a Main Menu with a Play All button, a link to a Scene select submenu, and a link to a bonus material submenu. The scene select submenu should allow the user to play individual tracks, while the bonus material should feature links to a biographical documentary, an interview with the artist and a making of featurette relating to the video for their latest or best known track. You can use any music genre but the artist must be imaginary NOT a current recording artist. Any pictures or graphics should be self generated. In all cases you should not use real or existing people or programmes and all images and graphics should be self generated. For each example you should clearly indicate the Normal and Highlighted button state. Your designs are best produced using software such as Adobe Photoshop, however, if you do not feel confident using this they can be simply produced on paper, but ensure you use the correct aspect ratio and accurately represent your designs. cont..
