Importing a Sacs model into GeniE

General about the Sacs GeniE data translation What can be automatically imported What must be manually modified

How to verify that the GeniE model is the same as the Sacs model
How to run linear analysis of the imported model How to look at results of the imported model What purposes can the imported model serve

Use GeniE version 6.2 or later

How to import a model from Sacs

The procedure today
Import structure (automatic) Import wave load data (automatic) Import load combinations (automatic) Add soil data, blanket and wind loads Verify model with previous reports or model data Run a linear static analysis and verify selected key results (displacements, forces and stresses)

You can do it
Without training or assistance By reading our tutorial Learning from a course where the goal is to import 3 structures We can do it as a consulting service to you

Once the model is verified it can be used for all purposes in Sesam

Import structure, loads, wave data and load combinations

Remember to specify database units before importing

Decide how to import

Normally use the following settings if there is wave data. For topsides ignore import wave load data

Joint and beam numbers - 1

The imported model has the same number as the Sacs model For the purpose of change capacity and making a true GeniE model you should change the mesh settings to always regenerate mesh

When you make a new analysis the finite element numbers will change

Joint and beam numbers - 2

If you want to keep the same finite element numbers for existing structure

Analysis, loads and wave loads

Analysis set-up, loads, wave loads and load combinations are part of the Activity If all data has been correctly imported you can run analysis and look at results

Check the log file after import

The log file is located in the workspace
- Data not converted is listed in the beginning of log file

Check the quality of the model

The verify feature can detect problems and help you understand the model

Compare GeniE model with Sacs model

Graphical visualisation and easy to query object properties - Structure model, point masse and sets - Total mass and centre of gravity - Properties sections, materials & hydrocoefficients - Local co-ordinate systems beams and plates - Loads both manually applied and waves - Load combinations loads and scaling factors - Soil layers - Displacements, stresses, forces, deflections for single load-case(s) or envelope

From reports - All above - Maximum wave shear and overturning moment - Load sums and reaction forces
