News from your local ATL in Sefton Summer 2012

A MESSAGE FROM THE BRANCH SECRETARY

Dear members It is with great regret that I must inform you that I will not be nominating for the position of ATL Sefton Branch Secretary at our upcoming AGM on 17th May 2012. The reason for this is that I will no longer be able to draw facility time from the Local Authority as I now work in an Academy. As brought to your attention in our last newsletter I was hoping for a resolution to this issue however it is fair to say that discussions between the ATL and the Local Authority did not result in the desired outcome and has ultimately impacted upon my decision not to nominate. That said, current negotiations are underway between the ATL and the Sefton group of academies to see how I may continue to represent our Academy members in a similar capacity and I will keep you further posted on the success of these negotiations. I would like to take this opportunity however, to strongly encourage Sefton members to consider nominating for the role of Branch Secretary. I can vouch that the role is a rewarding and worthwhile experience and you would be allocated facility time away from teaching to fulfill the role. I have enjoyed representing ATL members and I hope to continue to be able to do so for our academy members as mentioned. I would be more than willing to assist anyone who is interested in taking on the role and of course ATL staff are always on hand to offer support and guidance. I would also ask members to consider taking on one of the other roles advertised in this newsletter to ensure ATL Sefton Branch continues to have local representation. If you would like any further information please do not hesitate to contact me on the number at the end of this newsletter. On a more positive note I would like to draw your attention to our report on the next page regarding the successful event held by the ATL Sefton Branch on 28th March at Maghull Football Club. Many members from across the Sefton and Merseyside branches gathered to receive free Behaviour Management CPD and the feedback

ATL Sefton Branch hold successful CPD Event at Maghull Football Club.
ATL members from across the Sefton and Merseyside branches gathered at Maghull Football Club on 28th March to attend ATL Seftons free Behaviour Management CPD delivered by Lisa Miller. Members took full advantage of the sunshine by gathering out on the oval for refreshments before sitting in on the free session. It was an ideal opportunity for members to meet each other, share stories and meet ATL staff. Some members took the opportunity to speak to ATL Regional Official Peter Duff about issues in their workplace while others were happy to inquire about upcoming branch positions and learning opportunities. Some members even came forward wanting to be student reps at nearby universities. The Behaviour Management session received excellent feedback with members saying: the whole course was excellent. A very valuable course. I wish Id had this course on my PGCE or NQT years the whole session was amazing and extremely beneficial great practical descriptions and demonstrations of behaviours. ATL Sefton Branch will be hosting further CPD at our AGM so please book your place now!
