Executive Summary
The time ahead of myself are going to be crazy, strenuous, and time consuming. I look forward to graduating from Arizona State University in one year knowing that I can make an impact. College teaches you the element of multitasking. The challenges I overcome today brings me one step closer to the person I want to be in the future.

The future for myself entails a rigorous climb to the top of a business environment. The skills I need to obtain this goal are intelligence, patience, and a hard work ethic. After surveying a few job advertisements related to my goals it was apparent that there are certain required skills. Experience in the construction industry is going to be the main factor when marketing yourself in this industry. Employers also seek an applicant who has a construction related college degree. The profiles of construction estimators also gave insight to who these people are interacting with.

The Future Professional Me

Following graduation of Arizona State University the industry I am interested in continuing a career in is construction management. A have proved to have possessed a great amount of useful knowledge following graduation from the Herberger School of Design. I have proved throughout three successful years of employment with Chasse Building Team that I am able to carry the role of an estimator. This role will require 50+ hour work weeks and very stressful deadlines. I would like to work for a general contractor for the rest of my life, so I decided to dip into the different stages of employment.

I would like to have some sort of job in real estate or development. I currently work for a construction company and really enjoy it. I would like to work somewhere in the construction industry most likely for the rest of my life. Upon graduation I will obtain my real estate license and try to sell houses on the side for some extra money. This type of professional career looks like it takes a lot of work. For selling houses it will look like a lot of sales. As I continue my career in construction management it is mostly focused on building processes. Employers are looking for knowledgeable go-getters who are willing to put in hours. From my perspective employers definitely are searching for experience over knowledge. The experience that really opened my eyes to this profession is having the job I do now.

Estimators work specifically in the pre-construction phase of the construction process and I thoroughly enjoy watching a building go up from the design phase all the way to completion. A construction estimators duties come from a wide range of talent ranging everywhere from subcontractor communication to working with the owner/architect directly on pricing. When looking to hire an estimator, general contractors are searching for a very bright goal oriented individual with extensive experience in the financial side of a project.

Estimating will give me a substantial background on construction. Proceding construction estimating will be Project Manager. At this point in my life I will be it least half a decade older, and wiser. Project Managers for General Contractors are responsible for ensuring a construction project runs cost effectively and on schedule. I would be in control of several different projects at one time. This is where multi-tasking learned in school comes into play.

The division that engages clients, brings people together, and has the most fun is marketing. If I were to work in the marketing division for a general contractor I would enjoy being a member of this group. I would be in charge of organizing events such as ground breakings, team building events, client appreciation, and much more. The personality type required for this type of employee is extremely outgoing and appealing.

Current Web Analysis Professional Identity #1 Construction Estimator To get some background on a construction estimating position, I searched using

Linkedin. Once narrowing the search to United States I found a senior estimator out of Phoenix, Arizona (See Appendix A). I chose Derek because I am familiar with the general contracting firm he works for. Derek is a project executive at DPR Construction. He has over 500 connections and is involved with more than a couple non-profit organizations. Derek does not list different skills you must obtain to carry out his every day tasks. Based on his involvement with non-profit organizations I am guessing that estimators must be involved with the organization their clients stand behind. His regional leadership role in the Phoenix and Atlanta offices tell me that he knows how to influence and inspire others.

Professional Identity #2 Construction Project Manager For professional identity number two I searched linked in for a construction project manager. I found Robert Sum(See Appendix A), Project Manager for Turner Construction in the Cincinnati area. The first thing that came to my attention is that Robert was previously manager of Education Facilities Division at Megan Construction, a big time name in Ohio. Based on Roberts profile I can tell you that a person in his position must be self-motivated, action-oriented, results-driven, and well-rounded.

Current Web Analysis Robert has less connections than the previous identity researched. The difference between the estimators background and Roberts is noteworthy. Robert has been in a senior project management position for three different firms since 1995. Professional Identity #3 Construction Marketing

To gain insight on a career on marketing in the construction industry I found Kellian McDonald(See Appendix A). I was surprised to notice the estimator had the most connections out of the three identities. I would anticipate the marketing manager for CB Richard Ellis would trump the rest. Kellian works as a marketing coordinator at Florida CBRE. A background in marketing is required for the job level Kellian is at. She seems to have extensive experience working for two other development organizations. Kellian received a degree from the John T. Riordan School for Professional Development at the University of Florida. Soft skills displayed by this identity include personal branding coach, rainmaker and community advocate, brand motivator, and the ability to connect people and ideas.

The Current Me

The first thought that springs to my mind when asking how to find myself online is SOCIAL MEDIA. I feel as though everything I go to these days that is actually useful online, requires an email account. Just for that reason I have an account dedicated only to spam! I think that is getting a little ridiculous. Do we rally know how much information we give up? With enormous amounts of information available for anyone to see, prospective job applicants must ensure there identity is guarded.

I searched my name with several different ways with three different search engines. Good news! The only information that came up was relatively professional. I searched using geographical filters by using every city I have ever lived in. I tried Mikey, Mike, and Michael and also threw in my middle name and one without it. Safe to say I am not too easy to find.

Of course you would expect me to tell you that Googles search as the most effective, your right. I like using Google to search more than Yahoo and Bing. See Appendix B) Using Google to search proved to be the most effective way because of the blend of pictures with websites. I am more familiar with Google and use more of their products like Gmail, docs, and many more.

Current Web Analysis I am very pleased to have the only documentation online about myself be in good order. The websites associated with my name when searched into Google are

Facebook, Myspace, Linkedin, and most importantly my resume. I make it a priority to ensure my social media websites are updated in a professional manner. My current online identity is right where it needs to be.

Conclusions: Bridging the Gap

I would describe my biggest strength as having the ability to know what has to be done to accomplish a certain goal. I have the drive and initiative to identify what achievements need to be mastered in order to move on to the next step. This brings me into my other advantageous trait, multi-tasking. I have the capability to juggle several responsibilities at one time while outperforming the competition in every way! School and work are combined into an average weekday for myself. I know that these three things must be accomplished in order to move up in life, and I know that they require a lot more attention and effort than I would like for a weekday. My ability to accomplish these goals could not be come from any trait other than multitasking. Two of the biggest weaknesses working against myself are time management and communication skills. It is too easy for myself to commit to something, without even checking my calendar. I need to improve on scheduling important dates and following through with them. The communication skills bringing myself down go along with my time management. When faced with a full-time job I will not be able to miss an important date. I need to effectively communicate my time to co-workers and plan ahead
