Alcatel OPTINEXTM 1650 SMC

STM-1/4 Multiservice Metro Node

Metropolitan networks today require access rings at high bit rates, highly reliable and able to flexibly adapt to changing traffic patterns. Alcatel OPTINEXTM1650 SMC is an ideal multiservice building block for local and metropolitan networks. It provides unmatched performances for its room occupation. SPEED All standard PDH and SDH interfaces from 1.5 Mbps to 622 Mbps. RELIABLE Alcatel OPTINEXTM1650 SMC offers two types of network protections: Linear Multiplex Section Protection (MSP) and Sub-Network Connection Protection (SNCP). Although the system is very compact in size, node protection in addition to line protection is possible as all replaceable units are optionally redundant. Power supply protection is inherent as the DC/DC conversion function is distributed on each card. But not only: OPTINEXTM consolidates the huge experience gathered by Alcatel in the field of SDH transmission through tens of thousands installations worldwide. That's also where true reliability comes from.

FLEXIBLE A Compact ADM card concentrates 2xSTM-1 interfaces, SDH matrix, clock reference and equipment control functions. Three slots are then dedicated to traffic ports, where flexibility is total. The system may be configured for example as STM-1 ADM with full termination capacity (e.g. 63 x 2Mbps) or as STM-4 ADM with up to 12 x STM-1 tributaries,

which may each be used to link for example to an OPTINEXTM 1640 FOX CPE. Multiple SNCP rings (e.g. up to 8 x STM-1 rings) may be terminated by the same node. The VC cross-connect size provides full connectivity at all VC layers for any possible configuration. But flexibility today means also ability to deal effectively with data traffic such as IP & ATM.

FUTURE PROOF Transmission networks are going to be dominated by data traffic. Alcatel OPTINEXTM1650 SMC offers integrated ATM switching and IP routing capabilities which help improving bandwidth utilization and network dimensioning. By grooming traffic coming from different data users into common SDH Virtual Containers as close to the traffic sources as possible a network operator can optimize bandwidth utilization and delay investments for network upgrades. The Alcatel OPTINEXTM 1650 SMC integrated switch/router cards allow to reach such goal without extra-costs for dedicated equipment. Moreover, they provide traffic control functions such as shaping and policing which are vital to avoid network congestion and to provide QoS guarantees.
