SODIUM SILICATE
Sodium silicate, also known as water glass or liquid glass, available in aqueous solution and in solid form, is a compound used in cements, passive fire protection, refractories, textile and lumber processing. Sodium silicates are solids where the proportion between silicon, oxygen and sodium determines what will be the resulting silicate(s). They are based on the silicone atom ability to coordinate four oxygen atoms in a tetraeder. Sodium silicates, popularly called water glass or soluble glass, are generally classified according to their SiO2, Na2O ratio, which varies between 0.5 and 4 and with various proportions of water based upon this ratio, a series of compounds are known ranging in properties from strongly alkaline to nearly neutral, and from crystalline, to glassy solids, to viscous liquids. The important silicates are sodium orthosilicate, Na4SiO4, Sodium metasilicate (Na2SiO3) and their hydrates, and sodium sequisilicate (Na6Si2O7) and their hydrates.

POULTRY & BROILER FARMING

The production of poultry in the United States and generally throughout the world is carried out by a highly specialized, efficient poultry industry that has been a leader in trends of scale and industrialisation that have taken place in American agriculture over the past half century. The total number of chicken produced in the United Statee annually amounts to more than 3.6 billion. These are kept for two separate purpose the production of table eggs. The organisation and methods used by the two aspects of the poultry industry are different, and generally commercial table egg production and broiler production are carried out by separate enterprices. Availability of feeds and their ingredients contributed significantly to increased Poultry production is our country during the two decades.

STAINLESS STEEL PIPE/TUBES

Although non-ferrous pipes have been used since about 2800 B.C., the production of ferrous materials in tubular form was developed much later. Iron-musket barrels were made in the 12th century and cast-iron cammon barrels and water pipe in the late 17th century. The use of wrought iron in tubular products began in 1825 by the conventional butt welding process and, in 1887, Besmear steel was successfully used for this purpose. The lap-welding of pipes, initially carried out by hand was mechanized in the 1840s by means of a ball placed between the rolls of a two high mill. From then until the 1920s lap welding was the main process used for pipes over 3 inches in diameter. Although an extrusion process for making pipe was patented in 1836, it was not until the manner mann brothers developed the rotary piercing process in Germany in 1886 that seamless tube production became economically feasible. Subsequent technological developments were directional towards changes in the piercing mills and rolling the pierced shells into better finished tubes.

RUBBER GOODS FROM WASTE RUBBER

By the application of heat and chemical agents to ground vulcanized waste rubber a substantial regeneration of rubber compound to its original plastic state is effected, yielding a product known as Reclaim or Reclaimed rubber. It is capable of being processed compounded or revulcanised. The process is essentially one of depolymerisation. Reclaimed Rubber has become widely accepted as a raw material which possesses processing and economic characteristics that are of great value in the compounding of natural and synthetic rubber stock. During reclamation combined sulphur is not removed and some of the good properties of reclaimed rubber are attributed to this fact. Free sulphur ofcourse get removed during reclamation. The following point are note worthy regarding the Chemistry of reclamation. The chemical unsaturation of the rubber hydrocarbon of the reclaim is similar to that of the original vulcanized scrap.

BIO-DIESEL FROM ALGAE

High oil prices, competing demands between foods and other biofuel sources, and the world food crisis, have ignited interest in algaculture (farming algae) for making vegetable oil, biodiesel, bioethanol, biogasoline, biomethanol, biobutanol and other biofuels, using land that is not suitable for agriculture. Among algal fuels attractive characteristics: they do not affect fresh water resources, can be produced using ocean and wastewater, and are biodegradable and relatively harmless to the environment if spilled. Algae cost more per unit mass (as of 2010, food grade algae costs ~$5000/tonne), due to high capital and operating costs, yet can theoretically yield between 10 and 100 times more energy per unit area than other second-generation biofuel crops. One biofuels company has claimed that algae can produce more oil in an area the size of a two car garage than a football field of soybeans, because almost the entire algal organism can use sunlight to produce lipids, or oil.

P.V.C. FLEXIBLE PIPES

Water makes life possible, and it is difficult to imagine any programme for human development or improvement that does not pre-suppose or require a readily available supply of water. Globally there may be potentially enough water to meet forthcoming needs. But frustratingly, it tends to be available in the wrong place, at the wrong time or with the wrong quality. And in one way or other, all societies are served with an adequate and safe water supply.

CALCINED PETROLEUM COKE

Calcined petroleum coke is a product obtained from the high temperature treatment of specified feed-stocks. The feedstocks (raw petroleum coke) are derived from the distillation of petroleum crude in delayed cokers. Raw petroleum coke is a hard brittle substance, shiny and oily in appearance, very rich in fixed carbon with a very low ash content. Raw petroleum coke is calcined before it can be usefully employed for various applications in industries as diverse as graphite to metallurge. Calcination consists of heating raw petroleum coke to rid it of volatiles causing it to shrink to obtain dense and strong particles.

ERATED CONCRETE BLOCKS/HOLLOW BLOCKS
Concrete blocks for building houses were first made in Europe around 1850. The massproduction of concrete blocks underwent in step with the development of the cement industry chiefly in Western Countries around 1918. In the United States, the concrete blocks industry recorded a major development after the introduction of the vibration process as a new method of compaction around 1930. During the World War - II, the concrete block industry developed significantly in Europian countries and the United States.

FRUIT JUICE, JAM, JELLIES AND ALLIED PRODUCTS

Fruit drinks/juices can be classified as the liquid or liquid and pulpy material in relatively homogeneous forms derived from fruit. Generally juices are entirely free of seed and tough fibers and of smooth consistency. Juices are classified in three groups:- (a) High Acid Juices, (b) Medium Juices, (c) Low acid or non-acid juices. High acid juices include the fruit drinks/juices in the PH range of 3.90 or lower i.e. Guava, Pine Apple etc. Medium acid juices include the fruit drinks/juices in the PH range 3.90-4.90 ie. Apples, Bananas, Mango etc. Similarly the fruit drinks/juices which are in the PH range of 4.80 or more are low or non-acid juices i.e. Beets, carrots etc.

FOOD PRODUCTS COMPLEX (DEHYDRATED ONIONS, GARLIC POWDER & FLAKES, CATTLE FEED, TOMATO POWDER, TOMATO PRODUCTS, CANNED FRUITS & VEGETABLES, TOMATO PUREE, GROUNDNUT OIL, REFINED OIL, DEHYDRATED GRAPES ETC.)
The main advantages of dehydrated onions are that they are easy to store, being lighter in weight and smaller in bulk than fresh or other processed onions, they are cheap to pack compared with canned goods, they do not require refrigerated storage as do frozen onions and the contents of a container can be used some time after opening provided they are not rehydrated. The newest dehydration process appears to be a variation on the airdrying process and is based on the principle of vapour pressure differentials, using air circulated around the onions at relatively low temperatures to sweat the water from the food. It is reported that this method of dehydration prevents a crust forming on the outside of the pieces of food and that the low temperatures have less effect on flavour, texture, colour and vitamin contents of onion than do the higher temperatures used in conventional hot air-drying methods.

There are two types of yeast as compressed yeast. yeast. It is convenient to use dry yeast powder for bakeries because its handling is simple and its preservation easy. Dry yeast which can be contained in the form of pillets or flakes in packets or tins. Can be kept for some time in cool, dry conditions. It is important to remember that: a. Approximately half as much dried yeast as fresh is required in any recipe. b. Reconstitution is necessary before using dried yeast. This is done by soaking the yeast is luke warm water at 85oF containing oz, sugar to pint water, the water and sugar used for reconstitution should be substracted from the quantities given in the receipt. Sugar can be omitted, but the proving is necessary with fresh yeast.

India is a poor country. Government has facilitated free dispensaries, hospitals and health centers near and around all localities. Though, the Government is spending a lot on these hospitals, dispensaries and health centers, the poor people are not practically, getting full advantage of it. The reasons behind all that are that there is sufficient corruption in our health department. Doctors are not faithful and dont consider their responsibility. Generally the costly medicines, tablets, capsules and injections etc. are shown out of stock while actually these things are available there. A poor person has to purchase from the market.

INSTANT COFFEE
Instant coffee also known as soluble coffee is the dried water extract of roasted ground coffee. The product consists of brown cloured, free flowing particles of uniform size. Most commercial products contain 100% pure Coffee soluble solids. Instant coffee was included in the army rations during the Civil War and has been available in various forms, for a hundred years. However, it was not until after world war II that instant coffee became a popular consumer item. Its product quality is to better method, of manufacture as well as trend towards the use of convenience foods. Sale of soluble coffee have levelled off since 1961 but prior to 1961 there was a five fold growth over ten years. However, coffee has been a widely accepted societies beverage for many. The habit of drinking coffee spread rapidly across Europe, especially coffee become known in Vienna. Later its culture spread throughly in several countries in South America Central America. GOLD JEWELLERY
Jewellery making is one of the oldest industries in India. It has been a traditional craft in India, each region in the country specialising in different designs and skills. The Indian artisans and craftsman have developed mastery over the manufacture of solid gold ornaments, gem-encrusted jewellery, delicate ornaments with filligree work, enamelled jewellery as well as costume jewellery. Jewellery is one trade which is still placed in the cottage industry category. However, the growing recognition of Indian workmanship by foreign luyers has result in bosting the export of cut and polished gems. The Gem and Jewellery Export Promotion Council was set up in 1966. This was a welcome stepas gem and jewellery has been recognised as an export-oriented industry. The council operating under the Union Commerce Ministry as a non profit service institution, has helped in the establishment of testing laboratories and training school at Jaipur and the Indian Gemmological Institute at Delhi. The council represent about 3,000 exporters of gems and jewellery.

MUSTARD OIL (EXPELLER)

Primitive mills and presses for extraction of oils from seeds have been in use sevice long. Mechanization came with the introduction of the hydraulic press by the end of the 18th Century. This too was replaced by the more efficient screw press or expeller towards the end of the last century. They are more commonly classified according to their capacity for absorbing iodine i.e. Iodine value. Those with a high proportion of double bonds are called drying oils, those intermediate in capacity are called semidrying and those of low capacity non-drying. In general the non-drying and semi-drying oils are used as foods and as lubricants and the drying oils as paint and varnish ingredients. This distinction has never been a very precise one and is becoming less so as oils formerly classified as semi-drying such as soyabean are being used more and more in paints varnishes and other products that dry in a highly satisfactory way.

BIO GAS PLANT

Energy is becoming a scarce and costly input in the world. Oil which accounts for a sizeable portion of our energy consumption, has been making a very heavy tax on our foreign exchange resources. Other than coal, we must also find alternate resources of energy centred around solar, wind, tidal and bio-gas. An effective bio-gas programme leads to efficient use of cow dung for gas recovery and partial supplement to plant nutrient requirement. Bio-gas programme leads to improvement in rural living including rural sanitation. Conventional bio-gas digesters set up in India were predominently of the Khadi Village Industries Commission Model. Recently Janta Bio-gas plant designed by Planning Research and Action Division (PRAD) of State Planning Institute, Lucknow based on bio gas technology has proved to be comparatively more economical. Several Janta Biogas plants have been constructed in Uttar Pradesh and a few in Haryana.

FRUITS & VEGETABLES DRYING BY FREEZE DRYING METHOD

Preservation of foods by drying them is perhaps the oldest method known. Large quantities of fruits are dried in the sun in different parts of the world such as Asia Minor, Greece, Spain, and other Mediterranean countries, Arabia, Afghanistan, Australia, etc. The modern method of dehydration, i.e. drying fruits and vegetables under controlled conditions of temperature and humidity is, however, assuming importance as a major industry. The dehydration industry got an impetus during the World War II. On account of their concentrated form, low cost, convenience and easy transportability, dried fruit and vegetable products and also other dehydrated foods became highly popular among the armed forces.

STEEL ROLLING MILL (BY INDUCTION FURNACE) FROM STEEL SCRAP AND SPONGE IRON
The products of steel plants are in the form of structural shapes such as I-sections, channels, angles, plates, rails, sheets, axles and wheels for railways, merchant products lime rounds, hexagons, squares, strips etc. Galvanized sheets, tin-plates, wire-rods and so on. Rails, wheels and axles are specifically meant for railways which are a large consumer of steel. These are specifically used directly as supplied by steel plant. However, the remaining products of a steel plant, by and large, are processed further in engineering industries before their actual use. These products are therefore often called as Semis meaning thereby that they are semi-finished steel products only.

Gold a bright yellow metal with resplendent luster. It is exceedingly malleable and ductile. It can be beaten into the sheets so thin that 2,50,000 of them may be placed one over another to form a pile one inch in thickness, it can be drawn into wires so thin that a length equal to 50 miles weight just 1 oz. It does not oxidize in air or oxygen at any temp. It is unaffected by the hydrochloric acid, nitric acid and sulphuric acid, even at temp. 100oC. A mixture of hydrochloric acid (Aqua Regia) dissolves the metal. It is not attacked by the alkali hydroxides, sulphur and sulphur dioxide, but is acted upon by the hydrogens, bromine being the most active. It readily amalgamates with mercury, a properly which has been taken advantage of in the extraction of gold from antiferrous sand in which gold is present in a finely dispersed form.

MILK PROCESSING PLANT (TONED/DOUBLE TONED MILK, CREAM, BUTTER MILK, BUTTER CREAM, KHOYA, BUTTER, PANEER, GHEE)
India is the largest milk producer in the world. From being a milk impoverished nation to the top producer has been an arduous and almost miraculous climb. This of course must be attributed in great measure to Operation Flood and the historic Co-operative movement. Yet, it must be observed that the industry has failed to build on this bedrock and reach the paradigms set by the world milk majors. The dairy sector is the predominant component in the overall livestock activity in the country.

UREA FORMALDEHYDE AND MELAMINE FORMALDEHYDE MOULDING POWDER

The reaction between urea and formaldehyde has proved to be extremely complicated. It took about 40 years to reach the present stale knowledge of this reaction, and there are still many problems. Urea has a four replaceable hydrogen atoms, and thus a functionality of four, so there are various possibilities for reaction with formaldehyde. It therefore have the capacity of building up a three dimensional space lattice. The molecular proportion of urea to formaldehyde is very important, as the relative amount of the reactants determine, to a large extent, the properties of the product. The reaction temperature is another decisive factor, ambient, medium or high temperature produces resins with different properties. The same ureaformaldehyde condensation product may have different applications, which demand higher or lower viscosity. It is therefore essential to define the resins as to their extent of condensation. These possibilities of variations largely amount for the remarkable versality of ureaformaldehyde resins.

POLYOL USED FOR POLYURETHANES

Polyols are higher molecular weight materials manufactured from an initiator and monomeric building blocks. They are most easily classified as polyether polyols, which are made by the reaction of epoxides (oxiranes) with an active hydrogen containing starter compounds, or polyester polyols, which are made by the polycondensation of multifunctional carboxylic acids and hydroxyl compounds. They can be further classified according to their end use as flexible or rigid polyols, depending on the functionality of the initiator and their molecular weight. Taking into account functionality, flexible polyols have molecular weights from 2,000 to 10,000 (OH# from 18 to 56). Rigid polyols have molecular weights from 250 to 700 (OH# from 300 to 700). Polyols with molecular weights from 700 to 2,000 (OH# 60 to 280) are used to add stiffness or flexibility to base systems, as well as increase solubility of low molecular weight glycols in high molecular weight polyols.

FABRICATION OF HEAT EXCHANGERS

Heat exchangers are devices whose primary responsibility is the transfer (exchange) of heat, typically from one fluid to another. However, they are not only used in heating applications, such as space heaters, but are also used in cooling applications, such as refrigerators and air conditioners. Many types of heat exchangers can be distinguished from on another based on the direction the liquids flow. In such applications, the heat exchangers can be and be parallel-flow, cross-flow, or counter current. In parallel-flow heat exchangers, both fluid involved move in the same direction, entering and exiting the exchanger side by side. In cross-flow heat exchangers, the fluid paths run perpendicular to one another. In countercurrent heat exchangers, the fluid paths flow in opposite directions, with each exiting where the other enters. Countercurrent heat exchangers tend to be more effective than other types of exchangers.

Fruit Juices being rich in essential minerals, vitamins and other nutritive factor, they are quite popular. Besides, they are delicious and have universal appeal unlike other beverages. The nutritive value of real fruit beverages is far greater than of synthetic products which are at present being bottled and sold in large quantities through out the country. If real fruit juice could be substituted for these synthetic preparation, it would be a boom to the consumer as well as the fruit grower. There is, therefore, great scope in the country for the production of fruit juices and other fruit-based beverages. When the rapid progress in fruit farming that has taken place during the last two decades fresh fruit juices, like orange, pine apple, apple, etc. are being increasingly sold by vendors in some of the larger town. The demand for fresh fruit juice is on the increase but these cannot be had easily, when the fruit are out of season. WOMEN POLYTECHNIC COLLEGE

There is need of Women Polytechnic College in India for the development of country and provide the better opportunity for women in technical field. But in our country reservation system will not cater the merit of the general student as well as not application of technology by developed technology. Now a days highering of technology and running of administration is the main tool of the Indians industry. The economic progress of a country is strongly linked with the quality of education. It is therefore necessary for our technical educators to undertake periodic review of the curriculum and subject content of the technical programmes to ensure that they are up to date, not outmoded or obsolete and effectively fulfill the technological requirements of the country.

POULTRY AND HATCHERY FARMING

Poultry farms are increasing steadily. Many government agencies are encouraging poultry farming and even short term training courses are organised regularly. Such farms have generated considerable employment opportunities in semi urban and rural areas. Marketing of poultry birds is expensive and death of birds during transit is the main bottleneck. This compels most of the poultry farms to concentrate on nearby markets even if it means less prices. Instead, if these birds are processed after dressing and packed in tins then transportation is easier, shelf life of the product goes up and the product is more hygienic. It is believed that the indian Poultry Industry is 5,000 years old, since last 4 decades it began to witness remarkable growth from backyard to poultry industry. The organized sector of poultry industry is contributing nearly 70% of the total output and the rest 30% in the unorganized sector.

T M T STEEL BARS
Under thermo mechanical treatment (TMT), the steel bars are passed through a specially designed water-cooling system where they are kept till the outer surface of the bars becomes colder while the core remains hot. This creates a temperature gradient in the bars. When the bars are taken out of the cooling system, the heat flows from the core to the outer surface, further tempering of the bars, which helps them attain a higher yield strength. The resulting heat-treated structure imparts superior strength and toughness to the bars. The microstructure of the core is a very fine-grained ferrite and pearlite. TMT bars are also known as quenched and tempered rebars, because of the quenching and tempering processes involved in making the bars.

KATHA & CUTCH

Katha and cutch are produced from the heart wood of Acacia catechu. It is a common tree found in the tropical deciduous and thorn forests of India. Katha is mainly used in betel leaf (Pan) as masticatory and valued for its catechin content. Cutch, the bye product of Katha industry is largely used for dyeing, colouring pulp in paper industry, water softening and in deep oil drilling operations. Kattha is obtained mostly by crystallization in cold from the water extractives of the heartwood of Acacia catechu Willd., fam. Leguminosae commonly known as KHAIR tree, which is widely distributed in India, form the north-west plains to eastwards in Assam and throughout the country, particularly in the deciduous and drier regions. The other species namely, A. chundra Willd and A. catechuoides of KATTHA is carried out both, as a cottage scale industry in and around the organized sector. The general principle of extraction of the heartwood and of consequent separation of KATTHA ( containing most of catechin) from cutch (Principally catechu-tannic acid) is the same in cottage sector as well as large scale units.

ZINC & COPPER SULPHATE

Zinc sulphate is a widely used chemical and has been known under the name of White Vitrol. Although Zinc Sulphate (hepta hydrate) occurs in nature in small quantities as mineral Glosarite, this compound is normally manufactured synthetically. It is the colourless crystalline solid with crystals being orthorhombic in shape. It exists in various crystalline forms of hydrates as ZnSo4. 7H2O.ZnSo4.6H2O, ZnSo4.H2O. Zinc sulphate is also found in three unstable hydrates forms whose molecular formulas are ZnSo4.4H2O,ZnSo4.H2O and ZnSo4.H2O. The unstable hydrates are more soluble than stable form. The solubility of the unstable hydrate is 58.7 gm in 10 gm of water at 18oc while stable shows only 52.7 gm in 100 grams. The most important & popular commercial form of the compound is ZnSo4.7H2O.

PRE STRESSED CONCRETE PIPES

Prestressed Concrete Pipe cater to intermediate pressure range for which the metallic pipes are expensive while RCC pipes would not be suitable. The strength of a P.S.C pipe is achieved by helically binding high tensile steel wire under tension around a concrete core there by putting the core into compression. When the pipe is pressurised the stresses induced relieve the compressive stress but they arae not sufficent to subject the core to tenslie stresses. The prestressing wire is protected against corrosion by a surround of cementatious cover coat giving at least 25mm of cover P.S.C competes economically with steel for pipe diameters of 600 mm and above. It is a unique combination of durability of concrete and high strength of steel combined with economy in raw materials. The P.S.C pipes are ideally suited for water supply mains where pressures in the range of 6 Kg/cm2 to 20 Kg/cm2 are encountered.

CORRUGATED SHEET BOARD & BOXES

The materials now available for packaging are paper and paper products, metal containers and foils, glass, plastics-rigid and flexible, cellulosic films, textiles including jute, woven plastics and wood. Among the packaging materials, paper and paper based products continue to occupy a predominent place. Paper based materials used for packaging include bleached and unbleached kraft, corrugated and solid fibre boards, and a large variety of conveted items like wax coated, plastic coated, bitumen coated etc. Corrugated and solid fibre board boxes have replaced the conventional wooden boxes as transport containers because of thier light weight and satisfactory strength. There are, however, several areas in which this sector is laggin behind the developed countries, They include mainly production of parchment paper for use in packaging of biscuits etc. Sack kraft paper and high strength kraft for producing corrugated fibre board of good strength characteristics.
