Position of Professor

Requirements

Applicable academic qualification at NQF level 10 (e.g. PhD or LLD)

Must have at least five years teaching experience Must have completed an assessor training program

Must be able to make an insightful presentation (in content and form) on a topic that is of interest in the discipline to the selection committee Supervision of masters or doctoral candidates to completion Evidence that she/he has produced satisfactory student pass rates in the past two years of employment at his/her institution. Experience with teaching in an ODL environment will be an advantage Any evidence of student or peer evaluation from previous institution will be an advantage. Demonstrated potential to engage in research Qualification plus accredited research outputs or research reports or supervision of post graduate students or any other research activity providing proof of potential to do research Willingness to participate in community engagement and outreach Willingness to participate in departmental, school, college and University committees including task teams and voluntary associations Evidence of membership in at least one relevant professional body or learned society

Duties

Oversees that colleagues keep up to date with national and international trends in their discipline

Oversees the development of curricula that will support the Programme Qualification Mix (PQM) of the College and will contribute towards student graduateness

Oversees the implementation of the ODL tuition delivery model

Teaches postgraduate papers/modules

Supervises Master and Doctoral students

Provides leadership in planning, organisation, and implementing processes and structures to improve supervision of postgraduate students

Examines Masters and Doctoral students dissertations and theses

Ensures compliance with the Colleges Service Charter

Conducts research that could be discipline, field, and/or subject specific in order to produce at least five accredited research outputs in a period of three years, thereby enhancing the Universitys standing as a research institute of international repute

Determines own developmental path to become a National Research Foundation (NRF) rated scientist

Mentors young upcoming researchers

Initiates and participates in reflective research projects and encourages integration into teaching and learning practices

Participates in curriculum related community engagement and/or research-related community engagement

Promotes ODL research

Participates voluntarily in University structures/committees on various levels

Provides general academic leadership and mentors academic colleagues in the discipline

Position of Associate Professor

Requirements

Applicable academic qualification at NQF level 10 (e.g. PhD or LLD)

Must have at least four years teaching experience Must have completed an assessor training program Must be able to make an insightful presentation (in content and form) on a topic that is of interest in the discipline to the selection committee. Supervision of masters or doctoral candidates to completion Evidence that she/he has produced satisfactory student pass rates in the past two years of employment at his/her institution Experience with teaching in an ODL environment will be an advantage Any evidence of student or peer evaluation from previous institution will be an advantage Demonstrated potential to engage in research Qualification plus accredited research outputs or research reports or supervision of post graduate students or any other research activity providing proof of potential to do research Willingness to participate in community engagement and outreach Willingness to participate in departmental, school, college and University committees including task teams and voluntary associations Evidence of membership in at least one relevant professional body or learned society

Position of Senior Lecturer

Must be able to make an insightful presentation (in content and form) on a topic that is of interest in the discipline to the selection committee. Supervision of masters candidates to completion Evidence that she/he has produced satisfactory student pass rates in the past two years of employment at his/her institution Experience with teaching in an ODL environment will be an advantage Experience in teaching postgraduate courses or postgraduate project leadership

Any evidence of student or peer evaluation from previous institution will be an advantage. Applicable academic qualification at NQF level 8 for a vocational or academic area (e.g., Bachelor Honours or Postgraduate Diploma)

Must have at least one year teaching experience

Qualification plus registration for qualification at next level Must have completed an assessor training program Must be able to make a reasonable presentation (in content and form) on a topic that is of interest in their discipline Experience with teaching in an ODL environment will be an advantage Experience in teaching postgraduate courses or postgraduate project leadership Any evidence of student or peer evaluation from previous institution will be an advantage. Demonstrated potential to engage in research Qualification plus accredited research outputs or research reports or supervision of post graduate students or any other research activity providing proof of potential to do research Willingness to participate in community engagement and outreach Willingness to participate in departmental, school, college and University committees including task teams and voluntary associations

Duties

Develop and revises curricula in which he/she is involved that will support the Programme Qualification Mix (PQM) of the College and will contribute towards student graduateness

Design, teach, and revise modules up to and including NQF Level 8, by applying UNISAs OpenDistance-Learning Model

Compile tutorial material by incorporating current trends in the discipline into tutorial material

Quality assures tutorial material by adhering to quality standards regarding the design, content and publishing requirements for UNISAs tutorial material

Teaches undergraduate and postgraduate modules/courses

Sets assignments and examination papers (formative, as well as summative assessment)

Assesses students assignments and examination papers

Conducts discussion classes, group visits and lectures

Provides student support by responding to their queries - telephonic, email, letters, faxes and consultations, as well as by utilising myUNISA, and providing detailed comments on their assignments

Ensures that accurate records of assignment marks, examination papers, work completed, etc. are kept

Ensures compliance with the Colleges Service Charter

Conducts research that could be discipline, field, and/or subject specific in order to produce at least two accredited research outputs in a period of three years, thereby enhancing the Universitys standing as a research institute of international repute

Participates and assists with the arrangement and organisation of conferences, research colloquiums, workshops, and seminars in order to enhance research and discipline knowledge

Determines own developmental path to become a National Research Foundation (NRF) rated scientist

Participates actively in College and School research colloquiums and seminars by doing presentations based on own research and discipline knowledge

Participates in curriculum related community engagement and/or research-related community engagement

Promotes ODL research

Participates actively in departmental and school activities

Is involved with professional, national and international bodies/boards that are related to his/her discipline expertise

DEPARTMENT OF MANAGEMENT ACCOUNTING

Senior Lecturer (x3): Accounting (Ref: CEMS/BM/117-2012)

Qualifications:

An appropriate Honours degree at NQF level 8 in Accounting Sciences as well as either the CA(SA) professional qualification or the CMA professional qualification. Candidates who possess both the professional qualifications will have an advantage; and A completed training contract (articles) as well as at least three years posts articles discipline-related work or lecturing experience. OR

An appropriate Masters degree at NQF level 9 in Accounting Sciences and At least six years discipline related work or lecturing experience.

Qualifications:

A Masters degree at NQF level 9 in Operations Research, Quantitative Management (or applicable qualification at NQF level 9)

Requirements:

Demonstrated potential to engage in research, including qualification and registration for qualification at the next level

(e.g. PhD). Applicants from within UNISA need to have produced the number of research outputs as provided for in the Research Policy or be rated as a researcher by the NRF in any category

Applicants from another institution of higher education must have at least 1 year teaching experience

Considerable practical and/or ODL teaching experience in financial modelling and/or optimisation will be an advantage

Recommendations:

An excellent command of written and spoken English

Knowledge of other South African languages and the ability to provide tuition in the language(s)

Good ICT skills, including the ability to use LaTeX to typeset study material and research papers

A broad but practical view of the mathematical decision sciences
