Conclusion The objective of the project was to find a method to arrive on a suspension geometry given some known input

parameters to the suspension designer. The aim was also to analyze the effect of such a geometry on other performance parameters of the vehicle and finally to perform the ride analysis of the obtained geometry to analyze its effects on the vehicle performance. A detailed study of all the suspension parameters was done. All the parameters that affected the suspension geometry were tabulated. Based on the study, a graphical method was selected to make the geometry. The method included the determination of roll center and instant center. This method provides the mountings of upper and lower suspension A-arms and the strut. Once these are determined a kinematic analysis was done to find the various forces acting on the vehicle. This provided the details of the spring coefficient required. This analysis also provided the values of other important suspension parameters like kingpin inclinations, scrub radius etc. A Matlab code was written to simplify the user efforts of manual calculations. Next an analysis of suspension geometry on other vehicle parameters was done. Three different parameters representing three subsystems of the vehicle were studied. The acceleration test was done to find the effect on acceleration due to load transfer. Effect on gradability of the vehicle was also done to find the maximum gradient the configuration can support. An analysis on the braking performance was also done via studying the brake biasing of the vehicle under static and dynamic conditions. Finally the whole configuration was thoroughly in the ride analysis, where we found the ride quality of the vehicle under various disturbances. SIMULINK was used to make the models for ride analysis. Four different models were made to check the configuration thoroughly. The models were exposed to various disturbances and then the settling time, percentage overshoot and rise time were noted. Thus a comprehensive method to obtain the suspension geometry was made. The project was completed and verified using the existing softwares for the same purposes. The results for the same input parameters were found good and matching. The method developed during the project takes these softwares to a newer level of integration where we include analysis of effects on other subsystems as well. The project can be taken further in future by integrating the three software ie. ProE, Matlab and Simulink as it will further reduce the efforts of the user. The project was a rich learning experience. We feel that the project is a good exercise of applying the theoretical knowledge to the practical world. As far as our project is considered, we tried to incorporate all kinds of data, tables and calculations so that it is understandable and appreciated by all.
