Critical analysis ACHIEVING YOUR CHILDHOOD DREAMS BY RANDY PAUSCH

ITS NOT ABOUT ACHIEVEMENTS, ITS ABOUT LIVING. RANDY PAUSCH was a computer science visual at Carnegie University. He gave his last lecture on 18th September, 2007 after knowing that he was suffering from pancreatic cancer. When he came to know that he was approaching to death and left with 3-4months to live his life, then despite getting sad, gloomy, he tried to enjoy each and every moment. In the last lecture he didnt talk about his subject after receiving a terminal diagnosis with pancreatic cancer whereas he talked about his childhood dreams and he advised students that how can they achieve their goals. In the beginning, he told that he was not going to talk about cancer, his family, spirituality and religion whereas he would talk about the importance of overcoming obstacles, of enabling others dreams and of seizing every moment. He talked about his dreams such as being in zero gravity, playing in NFL, being a Disney imaginer, authority an article in the world book encyclopaedia, being captain kerk and winning stuffed animals. I really liked his way of experiencing being in zero gravity; he played a marvellous role of extracting information from NASA by possessing a fake journalist. He was able to achieve his childhood dreams directly or indirectly. He even gave the example of the football coach who taught his young players about footwork, handling the ball and making tackles but they ramblingly learnt sportsmanship and teamwork, which is literally called as headfake. He was such an audacious man that despite of knowing that death was impending to him in next a few months, he enjoyed every day of his life left with him with his family. You may be feeling sorry for randy pausch but dont be sorry for him, feel sorry for ourselves as we struggle to live life a fraction of the meaning, He had found yet, we have so much of time to live it. He symbolised obstacles as brick wall as obstacles keeps on coming in our way but we should be determined even to fight them and achieve our dreams, we should not lose hope at any stage of life. He was really a bold man that inspite of knowing about his death time, he was still making people laugh at his instances, he was having the ability to inspire people and made them listen him. At the end he celebrates his wifes birthday which was a day before, he wanted to celebrate his wifes birthday with 500persons and he did. He talked about karmas that we should be honest, truthful and think of others, apologise when we make some mistake and be earnest.

To sum up we can say that during the lecture, Pausch was upbeat and humorous, alternating between wisecracks, insights on computer science and engineering education, advised on building multi-disciplinary collaborations, working in groups and interacting with other people, offering inspirational life lessons, focusing on ones own dreams. In the end I just want to pay him tribute for being such a courageous man, I cannot be like him but will try to adopt his philosophy in my life.
