If the rotor current is 15 Ampere and s = 0.1391, calculate the value of (a) the stator supply voltage (b) the motor input current. Ans: (Es=152.9;Ii=16.25ang-35.25) 2. In a 6 pole, 3 phase, 50 Hz induction motor, the power input is 30 KW. The stator losses are 1 KW, the friction and windage loss is 1.5 KW. Speed is 950 r.p.m. calculate (i) slip (ii) brake h.p. (iii) rotor copper loss (iv) efficiency. Ans: (Slip = 5%; Brake Horse Power = 40.79; Rotor Copper loss = 1.45KW; efficiency = 87%) 3. A 3 phase, 50 Hz, 6 pole induction motor supplies a useful torque of 150 N-m at 4% slip. Determine (i) rotor input Power (ii) motor input Power and (iii) efficiency. Given stator losses = 500 W and friction plus windage losses = 300 W. Ans:( rotor input =16004W; motor input = 16520.5W; efficiency = 91.28%) 4. A 3 phase induction motor when supplied from a balanced 3, 50 Hz source runs at a speed of 1420 r.p.m. Determine the slip and the number of poles of the motor. If the name plate of the motor be 6 HP, 1500 rpm, what is the value of the current that the motor draws when it supplies a balanced three phase 440 V, 50 Hz source. A six pole induction motor (star connected) is driven from an inverter and is revolving at a speed of 1000 revolutions/minute. The motor is now regeneratively braked by lowering the inverter frequency to Hz. The line voltage at this frequency is 208 V. The equivalent circuit parameters are as follows at f = 48 Hz; Rs = 0.4 , Xm = 25 , Rr = 0.4 , Xs = 1 , Xr = 2 . Calculate the power which is fed back from the machine by braking. Ans:(Power fed back from all 3 three phases = -3172 W (minus indicates braking)) 6. A three phase 10 KW, 1775 rpm, 440 V, 50 Hz four pole star connected induction motor has the following parameters, Rs = 0, Rr = 0.4 , Xs = 1 , Xr = 2 and Xm = 40 . The speed of the motor is controlled by controlling the frequency. If the requirement for breakdown torque is 40 N-m, find the supply frequency required to achieve the breakdown torque. Ans:(Supply frequency w = 728.68 rad/sec) 2 Note: Breakdown torque is related to motor torque by 7. In a four pole 440 V, 50 Hz induction motor (star connected) the ratio of the developed power to air gap power is 93 per cent. If the per phase equivalent circuit of the induction motor has the following parameters. Rs = 0.75 , Rr = 0.6 , Xs = 1.1 , Xr = 2 , Xm = 37 , Rm = 10 , find (i) the rotor speed (ii) the core loss (iii) the rotor copper loss (iv) the stator copper loss and (v) power developed. Ans:(rotor speed = 1395 rpm ; Core loss = 188.1; the stator copper loss = 1505W; power developed = 15996w) 8. For Problem (7), calculate (a) the torque developed (ii) efficiency (iii) starting current Irs and starting torque Ts (iv) the slip for maximum torque sm (v) the maximum developed torque in motoring Tmm (vi) the maximum regenerative developed torque Tmr and (vii) Tmm and Tmr if Rs is neglected. Ans:(torque developed = 109.5N-M; efficiency = 0.93; Starting current Is = 75.15A; Starting Torque = 64.7 N-M; Slip for maximum Torque = 0.1935; Motoring Torque = 176.58 N-m; Regenerative Torque = -213.24 N-m; Tb=-Tmr =198.8N-m)
