Next Association Meeting!

Tuesday May 1st Bloedel-Donovan Pavilion 7 PM Message from the ChairmanFor those that I have not had the opportunity to meet personally, my name is Dean Haskins. I am a long time resident of Alabama Hill having lived here most of my life! My wife and 3 kids have lived here in our current home here on Huron Street since 1989. As the new Chairman of our Neighborhood Association, Id like to thank you in advance for your support and I personally urge everyone to get involved in Alabama Hill Neighborhood events, whether they be political, social, environmental or whatever. If density, traffic, safety, crime, litter, graffiti or any type of threat to our quality of life is a concern to you or your loved ones, I urge you to get involved. Some important dates to put on your calendar: Tuesday, May 1 is our Quarterly Meeting at Bloedel Donovan Park. Tuesday, August 7 will be our Summer Picnic at St. Clair Park. Volunteers are needed to help in a variety of ways including, set up and breakdown. Please call or e-mail me or any Board Member if you have a Barbeque to loan out for a few hours or desire to volunteer in any way.

Our bank account balance is low after the mailing of our last newsletter which cost about $600. As we move forward it will be very helpful for us to have the ability to contact most residents by email, and of course that saves us all money as well! The Summer Picnic will have expenses and unfortunately we are now paying for the use of the Bloedel Donovan building for our meetings. Id like to appeal to each of you to contribute whatever you can to our non-profit organization to support our continued work on behalf of all of us on the hill. One of my major objectives as incoming Chairman is to build our membership and attendance at our Quarterly meetings. This will be a high priority for me so please bring ideas forward as to how we accomplish this goal. What types of speakers/programs or activities are of interest to you? Please share your ideas and more importantly come to the meetings and be a part of the decisions made. What AHA needs is active participation. Its the people that make a neighborhood and the more we do together, the better we know each other. The better we know each other, the safer and friendlier a neighborhood this will be for all of us. Thank you allhope to see you at the meeting this coming Tuesday at 7:00 PM! Please feel free to call or e-mail me or other board members with questions, comments, speaker suggestions or to volunteer in any way. Warmest RegardsDean Haskins AlabamaHillAssociation@gmail.com

The Perfect Meatball

These meatballs are easy to make and go with any sauce, sweet and sour, spaghetti, BBQ or spicy tangy. Make them up, freeze and pull out when you need them. As an appetizer, try the tangy sauce and watch them disappear.

Flocking for Cancer

INGREDIENTS: 2 cans (8 oz each) water chestnuts, drained 1 pound bulk pork sausage 1 pound bulk hot pork sausage
The Turnbaughs on Crestline Drive had a strange surprise recently when they got up one morning and discovered their yard covered with a flock of Pink Flamingoes. These fundraising fowl proved to be the secret emissaries of the local Flamingoes and Friends charitable squad who deploys these colorful birds to raise money for Cancer research. For more info go to www.flamingoesandfriends,org Yorkys Overhaul Underway

PREPARATION:

1. In a blender or food processor, process water chestnuts until minced. Transfer to a bowl, add sausage and mix well. Shape into 1-inch balls. Place in ungreased 15 x 10 x 1 inch pan. 2. Bake, uncovered, at 350 for 20 to 25 minutes or until meat is no longer pink. Drain on paper towels.

Tangy Sauce
1/4 cup cornstarch 1-cup maple syrup 2/3 cup red wine vinegar 1/4-cup soy sauce
Anyone driving Alabama Street these days has noticed the beginning of a significant remodel at Yorkys Market. The old store and adjacent car wash have been leveled already and the underground tanks will be excavated and stabilized, then a brand new station store will be built on the site, complete with postal box service.

Combine ingredients in saucepan, stir until smooth. Bring to a boil; cook and stir for 2 minutes or until thickened and bubbly. Add meatballs and heat through
