Chris Carr, Ph.D., HSPP
Dr. Carr is the Sport and Performance Psychologist and Training Coordinator for Performance Psychology in the Depart-
ment of Neuropsychology at the Indiana Neuroscience Institute in Indianapolis, Indiana., Dr. Carr coordinates training,
supervision, research, and applied practice in the area of performance psychology.

This unique program addresses “elite” performance issues in areas such as sports/athletics, performing arts, high
performance occupations (e.g. police/fire), business performance, and positive psychology applications. He also provides
individual counseling and consultation services; he is a licensed psychologist in the state of Indiana and is HSPP-en-
dorsed. He is currently the consulting sport psychologist for both the Purdue University Athletic Department (since 2002)
and Indiana University Athletic Department (beginning 2005). He was recently named as the Director of Sport Psychology
and National Team Sport Psychologist for USA Diving, and was with the team at the 2005 World Championships in
Montreal, where they won 3 medals. He is also the Team Sport Psychologist for the Indiana Fever (WNBA) since 2002.
Prior to joining INI, Dr. Carr was the Sport/Performance Psychologist at the Methodist Sports Medicine Center, and had
been (1995-2000) the Sport Psychologist for The Ohio State University Sports Medicine Center.

Dr. Carr was recently elected as the President-Elect for Division 47 (Exercise and Sport Psychology) of the American
Psychological Association and will serve on the Executive Committee until 2009. He is also on the United States Olym-
pic Committee Registry of Sport Psychology Providers based at the United States Olympic Training Center in Colorado
Springs, Colorado. He spent 6 years (1999-2005) as the Sport Psychologist for the Kansas City Royal Baseball Club. Dr.
Carr also served for ten years (1992-2002) as the Sport Psychologist for the United States Men’s Alpine Ski Team based
in Park City, Utah and was the team psychologist for the US Men’s Alpine Olympic Ski Team during the 2002 Winter
Olympic Games in Salt Lake City, Utah.

He was (2004-06) on the National Advisory Board for the Citizenship Through Sport Alliance (CTSA) “Report Card on Youth
Sport”, which presented their nationwide “report card on youth sports” in November of 2005.

He was a Performance Psychology Consultant with the United States Navy and worked with the Naval Air Station in
Pensacola, Florida from 1997-2001. He was the Team Psychologist for the Columbus Crew (1995-2000); he has
consulted with other Olympic Sports Organizations, Major League Baseball, and the Championship Auto Racing Teams.

Dr. Carr has a Ph.D. in Counseling Psychology with a minor in Exercise Science/Sport Psychology from Ball State University
in Muncie, Indiana. He spent one year as a Clinical Research Assistant in Sport Psychology at the United States Olympic
Training Center in Colorado Springs, Colorado, where he worked with elite-level athletes and coaches prior to the 1992
Olympic Games. Prior to coming to Ohio State in 1995, he was the Sport Psychologist for Counseling and Consultation
at Arizona State University in Tempe, Arizona; he was also the Team Counselor for the Arizona Cardinals of the National
Football League. Before 1994, Dr Carr was the Psychologist for Athletics at Washington State University in Pullman,
Washington.

He received his B.A. in Psychology from Wabash College and his M.A. in Counseling Psychology from Ball State University.
Dr. Carr lives in Westfield, Indiana with his wife Kelli and daughter Rachel.
