CONTINUOUS ASSESSMENTS Continuous assessments constitute part of the overall assessment for a course; the rest comes from the written examination. Continuous assessments can be conducted in various ways as determined by the professors teaching the course. Normally, they are based on assignments given and/or any tests conducted. All students are urged to take all tests conducted by the professors seriously and to submit all the given assignments on time.

5.

COURSE REGISTRATION All students are to register courses of study for themselves. Normally, there will be two course registration periods. The first course registration period will be opened to students one to two weeks before the beginning of each semester and the second course registration period is opened to student on the second day of the teaching week of each semester. Students are allowed to add or drop course(s) during the two registration periods. It is the responsibility of each student to register courses for himself/herself. Should a student fail to register a course and yet proceed to attend classes in that course, he/she will not be allowed to take the examination in the course or no grade will be awarded if course has no formal examination. For new students (except Communication Software & Networks programme and Communications Engineering programme), the two core courses will be registered automatically in the first semester. OPTION OF STUDY: COURSEWORK & DISSERTATION Student should check with their Programme Director on procedures pertaining to selection of topic and supervisor. Students of the following programmes could visit the respective website below for the procedure on project selection details: MSc (Communications Engineering): http://www.eee.ntu.edu.sg/CurrentStudents/Graduate/MSc/Pages/MSc_CME.aspx MSc (Computer Control & Automation): http://www.ci.eee.ntu.edu.sg/CurrentStudents/Graduate/MSc/Pages/MasterofScience.aspx MSc (Power Engineering): http://www.pe.eee.ntu.edu.sg/Students/Graduate/Pages/MSc.aspx MSc (Signal Processing): http://www.ie.eee.ntu.edu.sg/Students/Graduate/MSc(SignalProcessing)/Pages/CurrentStudents.aspx

8.1

Submission of Dissertation for Examination Student is required to submit two soft-bound copies of the dissertation together with forms titled Submission of Dissertation (Appendix D) and Student Data Form (Appendix E) through the supervisor and Programme Director to the Head of Division. The supervisor is required to certify on section III of form Submission of Dissertation that the dissertation is ready for examination before he forward the submission to Programme Director and Head of Division. The dissertation and forms will subsequently be forwarded to Graduate Programme Office, EEE to follow-up on examination process. The title of the dissertation must be exactly the same as the approved project title. If not, a student is requested to fill the Section III of the submission form. All forms related to the dissertation submission are available at:
Page 7

http://www.eee.ntu.edu.sg/CurrentStudents/Graduate/MSc/Pages/DissertationSubmission.aspx Unless extension of candidature is granted, each student is required to submit the dissertation within the maximum period of candidature. For a student to join the convocation(1) held in July of each year, he/she must have fulfilled and passed all requirements [including submitting one final hard bound copy with one CD ROM (The CD ROM can be either in MS Words or PDF format) of their dissertation] by the deadline stipulated by the Graduate Studies Office (The deadline is usually set around mid-May and announced by the Graduate Studies Office). Based on past cases, in general, the dissertation has to be approved by the supervisor, Programme Director and Divisional Head by early March in the same calendar year that it is ready for examination. This is based on the assumption that the dissertation examiners only require the student to make some minor changes to the dissertation and that the student promptly revises the dissertation in accordance with the examiners recommendation. One final hard bound copy with one CD ROM (The CD ROM can be either in MS Words or PDF format) of their dissertation should reach the Graduate Programme Office by the mid of May in order to join the convocation of that particular year. Student is liable to pay fee for the following semester should he/she fail to obtain approval from the supervisor, Programme Director and Divisional Head for his/her dissertation submission by the end of a semester (i.e., before the first day of the following semester). Student is also liable to pay fee for one or more subsequent semesters should the examiners recommend more work to be done for the project or student failed to submit the amended dissertation by the deadline stipulated. The standard dissertation format prescribed by the School is given in Appendix C. To avoid any delay in obtaining approvals for dissertation submission, student is advised to adhere strictly to the sample provided, including the structure of Chapter 1. A set of Dissertation Guideline also available at: http://www.eee.ntu.edu.sg/CurrentStudents/Graduate/MSc/Pages/DissertationSubmission.aspx

9.

NTU EEE ALUMI ASSOCIATION NTU EEE degree does not just give you an individual training; it also opens up a whole network of opportunities with industries, academia and other graduates from this big family. The Electrical & Electronics Engineering Alumni Association (EEEAA) is one of the conduits for this network. EEEAA was set up in December 1996 by our pioneer batch of EEE graduates. It is an association of graduates of EEE with members stretching from the very first batch in 1985 to the current graduating cohort. The purpose of the association has always been a platform to foster ever closer ties between the School, industries, graduates and current students. Besides organising educational, social, cultural, recreational, sporting and civic activities among EEE alumni, the association also serves as a body for members in the promotion and advancement of electrical and electronic engineering education and knowledge. The Association is the bridge between the tradition of the past and the energy of the present. Since 1997, the Association has been working closely with the School in nurturing a close relationship with the alumni and reinforcing the bond between the alumni and alma mater. It provides a great networking channel for NTU EEE graduates and undergraduates. The Association is also keen to nurture lifelong relationships with future EEE alumni by providing valued services and activities that benefit the EEE undergraduates at large, by working with EEE Student Clubs and Alumni Affair Offices on joint social events, personal enrichment programs and career advancement opportunities. Attracting members to the Association will remain a priority, and with more relevant and attractive events organised, both students and graduates will appreciate the need to join the Association and enjoy the privileges. News about upcoming alumni events and privileges are also featured regularly in the Schools alumni URL: http://www.eee.ntu.edu.sg/Alumni/Pages/EEEAlumni.aspx, the Associations URL: http://www.eeeaa.org/ and E3 World, a magazine that is published half-yearly by the School and distributed to all students and alumni. All current EEE undergraduates of NTU are encouraged to join as student members for S$10 (membership fee) and the entrance fee is waived. Upon graduation, the student members will just have to top up the remaining life membership fee to become life members. The current life membership fee is $30. Applications details can be found in the Associations website or through the attached form (Appendix G).
