Marisela Valenzuela Gallardo. ORAL 1 ILIN 142 Topic: Carrying out an affective activity. Date: April 25, 2011. Steps: 1. Select an age group of EFL students, a level and a unit of study. Sixth grade, Unit 1 Yo, mi familia y mis relaciones personales. This activity is for students who have English classes from fifth grade according to the ministerial lesson plan.

2. Based on the importance of affect to acquire a target language, plan and role play a 5 minute EFL activity in which you act as a teacher.

3. Describe the activity as follows:

a) Name the activity: Guess who!

b) State how long it will take you to develop it: 5 Minutes.

c) Specify age groups and language levels. This activity is appropriate for any age group, but it is particularly special for groups that are just meeting and in terms of language levels it is suitable for elementary students that are practicing vocabulary.

d) State the language contents you will review through the activity. Present simple Adjectives for physical description: long/short, green, curly/straight/wavy, etc. Adjectives for personality description: good, intelligent, messy, generous, shy, etc.

e) Mention the teaching materials. The teaching materials for this activity can be anything to select a student. In this specific case, a ball is going to be used by a first student in order to choose another randomly.

f) Describe the activity step by step. The students are required to think of a classmate they are closely related with. Then, the teachers give a ball to someone in the classroom to throw it to anybody. The student who catches the ball has to stand up and give a description of the person in mind until any of their classmates raise his or her hands showing that he or she already knows who the person is.

h) Include your classroom management strategy. In order to select a student and to catch their attention, a soft ball is required to throw it.

i) Share reflections which can be expressed through advantages, disadvantages, suggestions, warnings, etc Comment on how affect is incorporated. -The students with a low English level need enough time to think of the person they want to share with the class. -The ball used must be soft so as to avoid injuries.

k) You may add further information. This activity can have some variations. If the class objective is asking and answering questions, the teacher can have a bag with several adjectives written in papers. Thus, one student has to pick one randomly and formulate a question. In this way, the student who has someone in mind has to answer with short or long answers if it is required.
