Narration: 1. Can you think of the oldest person that you know? 2. Is it a grandparent, aunt, uncle, or neighbor? 3. Have you ever wondered what life was like when they were your age? 4. Your job is to interview the oldest person you know and find out. 5. The First Step 6. Write a set of interview questions that you would like to ask. Then, have your teacher approve them. 7. Once approved you are ready to start your interview. 8. Lets look at an example of what an interview might look like. 9. Lets take a field trip to my grandmas house.

Mrs. K: What was school like when you were in school? Grandma: Very different from today, because teachers were stricter and rules were stricter. If kids got in trouble they got spanked if they did wrong. It was an experience. Mrs. K: How many students were in your class? Grandma: 30 Mrs. K: What was your favorite subject? Grandma: Reading Mrs. K: What did your school building look like? Grandma: It was a two story building it was nice. Mrs. K: Where did you live when you were a girl? Grandma: In Johnsons Fork, Letcher County. Mrs. K: How many people were in your family? Grandma: 14 Mrs. K: What did you and brothers and sisters like to do for fun when you were 7 or 8? Grandma: We played ball, and we played marbles, we rode horses, climbed the

mountains, and climbed trees. Mrs. K: What was your favorite toy to play with? Grandma: doll Mrs. K: How did you get to school everyday? Grandma: walked Mrs. K: How far of a walk was it? Grandma: 2 miles Mrs. K: Did you walk in the snow? Grandma: Yes Mrs. K: Did you have snow days? Grandma: no Mrs. K: What was your favorite television show? Grandma: They didnt have television in my day. Mrs. K: What year was it when you were around 7 or 8? Grandma: Its been a long time Im 94. Mrs. K: When were you born? Grandma: May the 16th 1917. Mrs. K: If we do our math and add on 7 years 1924 was the year you were 7. Mrs. K: What did you usually get for Christmas in 1924? Grandma: Sets of dishes, dolls, the usual things. Mrs. K: Did you play any instruments? Grandma: no Mrs. K: What kinds of music did you listen to? Grandma: The record player Mrs. K: What kinds of jobs did your parents have? Grandma: My step daddy was a coal miner and my mom stayed at home. Mrs. K: Did you have any chores or jobs you had to do?
Grandma: Since the babies came along I helped rock babies and helped with whatever needed to be done. Mom didnt excuse us from any of the work. Mrs. K: Were you the oldest? Grandma: yes Mrs. K: Thank you very much for your time.
