YOUTH VIGIL

The sanctuary begins in darkness, except for the candles burning near the altar. INTRODUCTION My dear brothers and sisters in the Risen Lord, how good it is to be here! How good it is that we have come together in prayer to prepare to receive the Holy Spirit and his gifts and to encounter the living Lord in our midst. God will not disappoint our hope! He is present among us and is eager to fill us with his love. Let us turn our hearts to him now as we begin our prayer in his name: INTRODUCTORY RITES Leader: All: In the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit. Amen.

ENTRANCE OF THE CROSS AND MARIAN ICON: FROM THE CROSS TO THE LIGHT Then the Cross and Icon are carried unto the stage from the back accompanied by selected youth carrying torches, as a song is sung. The cross and icon remain on stage for the duration of the vigil. Song Leader: Lord Jesus, We Enthrone You May Christ, crucified and risen, enlighten the darkness of the earth.

OPENING PRAYER Leader: Most loving Father, we come before you under the sign of the cross your Son. In the presence and power of this sign, we beg you to send the Holy Spirit into our hearts. Fill us with the fire of your love, that we may set the world ablaze with that love, and be witnesses to Christ even to the ends of the earth. We ask this through our Lord, Jesus Christ, your Son, who lives and reigns with you in the power of the Holy Spirit, God forever and ever.

All: Song

Amen. Still

As the song is sung, the youth who escorted the Cross and Icon move to center stage. Then they move outward to light the candles of the assembly. Youth: We hold in our hand a symbol of Christ, the light of the world, the light that no darkness can overcome. From the beginning of time, light has been a symbol pointing to the coming of Christ as the dawn from on high. You, O Lord, are our light. Enlighten our darkness. As we each guard the light in our hands throughout this Vigil, we are mindful that we have received the light of faith at our Baptism. It is not our light that shines, but the light of Christ in us. From the one light of Christ, all light has come, and is passed on throughout all nations, throughout all time.

CELEBRATION OF THE WORD Gospel Acclamation Reader: All: Reader: Seek Ye First

A reading from the holy Gospel according to Saint John. Glory to you, Lord. I am the true vine, and my Father is the vine grower. He takes away every branch in me that does not bear fruit, and everyone that does he prunes so that it bears more fruit. You are already pruned because of the word that I spoke to you. Remain in me, as I remain in you. Just as a branch cannot bear fruit on its own unless it remains on the vine, so neither can you unless you remain in me. I am the vine, you are the branches. Whoever remains in me and I in him will bear much fruit, because without me you can do nothing. Anyone who does not remain in me will be thrown out like a branch and wither; people will

gather them and throw them into a fire and they will be burned. If you remain in me and my words remain in you, ask for whatever you want and it will be done for you. By this is my Father glorified, that you bear much fruit and become my disciples. As the Father loves me, so I also love you. Remain in my love. If you keep my commandments, you will remain in my love, just as I have kept my Fathers commandments and remain in his love. Reader: All: The Gospel of the Lord. Praise to you, Lord Jesus Christ.

Silent Reflection GROUP SHARING Guide Questions What word or verse touches you most and why? How can I unite myself more to Jesus in order to bear much fruit? WITNESSING Three witnesses will share to the assembly what they shared in their respective groups. TAIZE PRAYER Introductory Prayer Youth: God our Father, behold us gathered here this night in the name of your Son, our Lord Jesus Christ. Send that fire of your Spirit to inflame our minds and hearts anew with bold faith, trusting hope, and courageous love. May your presence in our daily lives manifest the fruits of joy and peace, kindness and compassion. Transform each one of use that we will be living witnesses to the world of your truth and love.

All:

Amen.
