HOW DID YOU GO ABOUT IDENTIFYING THIS PROBLEM?

Phomolong support group was set up in February 2003 by local men and women Volunteers were concerned about HIV/AIDS and its devastating effects on vulnerable groups in Ha-Tsosane area Of particular concern was the high rate of people who were sick and dying as well increasing number of orphans often left behind under very difficult circumstances without any care and support elderly people

IS THIS ISSUE IMPORTANT?

Yes the issue is important because this is a support group that carries out all sorts of activities that will generate income in order to help others Such activities include rearing broiler chickens and home gardening Educating children about their rights and responsibilities Awareness of HIV/AIDS and also places where they can seek helpe.g CGPU,the office of the Master of High Court

HOW ARE YOU GOING ABOUT ADDRESSING THI S PROBLEM?

Time and again ,the support group seek help from the government ,NGOS and UN agencies. At times the group managed to some funds or in kind assistance from these organisation

WHAT IS THE TIME-FRAME FOR THE PROJECT?

It is on going project because as long as HIV/AIDS still a serious pandemic, orphans,vulnerable and elderly persons will still need Phomolong Support Group to assist

WHO IS THE KEY TARGET? WHO IS INVOLVED? ARE WOMEN AND MEN EQUALLY INVOLVED?

Vulnerable,orphans,elderly and disabled people Members of the support group Our local chief and community In terms of partnership, we usually hold meetings with children and their care givers to empower them so as to maintain good relationships amongst themselves Yes both men and women are equally involved Yes their concerns are equally taken into consideration e.g children are involved in the family issues that concern them

We have good partnership with other support groups,NGOS and the UN agencies e.g. World food program, skills share international Lesotho and the government Ministries

Resources are mobilised by making some proposals to different organisations They are being efficiently utilised in a sense that when funds received ,they are going straight to the proposed activities

CREATIVITY: ARE YOU USING ARTS, CULTURE, MEDIA AND SOCIAL MEDIA TO POPULARISE THE ISSUES?
We use to have gatherings where we would invite media to record all the activities Also other organisations such as Blue Cross,CGPU,Ministry of Gender, are also invited to address issues such as gender equality, child abuse, drugs abuse and womens rights

Child and women abuse has declined Children have a whole lot of self-esteem Properly grabbing after parents death has declined has declined too Children know places to go when they need help Our relationship with children has empowered that they feel free to address obstacles they come across

Yes it is sustainable because we managed to train three support groups to rear chicken and how to assist these children Yes it can replicated by others e.g three other support groups have begun rearing chicken and they are very powerful

At times we are not aware of the good things we make until some people come and praise us and even seeking help and advices on how we cope Children are well cared for They are being applied by sharing with others.
