Mini-lesson: Teacher explains how to write a poem: includes elements of poetry and goes over the different types of poems.

Teacher gives out directions and walks around the classroom to be available for questions.
Students begin drafting a poem of their own in their writing journal, including all elements of a poem.

Students will work with a partner to identify the rhyme scheme of a poem

Teacher will have each pair of students write their rhyme scheme on the board. Teacher will go over how to write a proper poem and include reminders
Each pair of students will share their rhyme scheme with the class on the board. Students will listen and ask questions if they have any.

Teacher will conference with students about their writing and make comments
Students will continue working on editing their drafts and move onto publishing.

Teacher will ask for any Students who have questions and for students finished their poems or to share their work are in the final stages will share their poem with the class.
