CYCLING & RURAL MOBILITY: COMMUNITY SOLUTIONS TO COMMON CHALLENGES

SUPPORT FOR PROVINCIAL INVESTMENT IN RURAL CYCLING INFRASTRUCTURE GROWS In early February, Island Pathways circulated a resolution to all 159 municipalities and regional districts in BC. Based on our Salish Sea Statements on Cycling & Rural Mobility, we asked Mayors, Councilors, Trustees and Directors to support provincial investment in rural cycling infrastructure. And they have. Weve heard from every corner of BC that cycling is an important part of the local transportation mix. Elected representatives from more than thirty communities & districts have supported the resolution: Bowen Island, Chilliwack, Creston, Cumberland, Denman, District of Mackenzie, District of North Cowichan District of Wells, Fernie, Fruitvale, Gabriola, Galiano, Gambier, Gold River, Hornby, Kaslo, Ladysmith, Lasqueti Lions Bay, Lumby, Mayne, Metchosin, North Pender, North Saanich, Port Clements, Powell River, Quesnel, Saturna, Salt Spring, Sidney, South Pender Thetis, Tofino, and Vernon. If your community has passed the resolution and isnt listed or if youre interested in showing local support, drop us an e-mail at: velovillage2012@gmail.com.
