Preparations:

Using a quilting ruler and air erasable marking pen, draw a diagonal line on the fabric at a 60 degree angle (place the 60 degree marking on the ruler on one of the cut edges and use the long, straight part of the ruler to make your diagonal line). Mark a second 60 degree diagonal line perpendicular to the first so that the lines cross over one another. Set aside. Lay the 16 x 32 batting on a flat surface. Spray the entire piece lightly with 505 Spray and Fix. Position the marked silk, right side up, on top of the batting. Smooth the silk so that the raw edges line up. Twin Needle Quilting:

1. Prepare your CREATIVE VISIONTM sewing and embroidery machine for twin needle quilting. Wind a bobbin with construction thread to match your silk and place it into the machine. Insert the Schmetz Twin Needle 6.0 and thread your machine with 2 spools of construction thread to match your silk. Snap on the Open-Toe Appliqu Foot 9mm and engage IDT. Select a serpentine stitch. Activate the Twin Needle function; select 6.0. Stitch along one of the diagonal lines on your fabric, creating the first row of Twin Needle Quilting Loosen the screw in the back of the presser foot holder and insert the Quilting Guide so the guide is approximately 3 from the needle. Tighten the screw. Position the fabric under the needle so that the Quilting Guide follows your previous stitching. Sew a second row of Twin Needle Quilting. Repeat this process until all rows are complete in first direction. Position your fabric under the needle so that the second marked line is aligned with the needle. Stitch, crossing over your quilting. Slide the fabric so the Quilting Guide follows the new row of stitching. Quilt all rows going the opposite direction. You will end up with a lattice effect. Trim the quilted piece to 13 L x 29 W.

Embellishment:
1. 2. 3. 4. 5. 6. 7. 8. 9. Fold the 13 L x 5 W strip of contrast silk in half lengthwise with right sides out. Press lightly. Refold so that the raw edges meet in the center at the press line. Press. The folded strip should measure 13 L x 2 W. Place a row of Steam-A-Seam 2 Lite on the backside of the stripe along each folded edge. Position the wide stripe on top of the quilted piece about 4 in from the right edge. Press to permanently bond the stripe to the cover. Repeat steps 1-3 to create the narrow stripe using the 13 L x 2 W strip of matching silk. The folded strip should measure 13 " L x 1" W. Center narrow stripe over wider stripe and fuse in place. Set your CREATIVE VISIONTM sewing and embroidery machine for straight stitch. Move your needle position over to the right close to the inside edge of the OpenToe Appliqu Foot. Set your stitch length to 3.0. Edge stitch down both sides of the stripes with contrast thread. Create the monogram appliqu by placing your trimmed embroidered square right sides together with the lining and sewing around the square using seam allowance.

10. Trim the seam allowance and clip corners. Place a small slit in the lining and turn right side out. Press. 11. Apply strips of Steam-A-Seam 2 Lite to the back of the appliqu and position Monogram approximately 2 from the bottom cut edge, centering it over the stripe. 12. Fuse in place. 13. Edge stitch appliqu with contrast thread.

Piping:
1. 2. 3. 4. 5. 6. Piece the 2 bias strips together with mitered seams. Trim seam allowance to and press open. Attach the PFAFF Piping Foot to your machine. Select straight stitch, center needle position, L = 2.5. Fold the 2 bias strip in half with wrong sides together. Insert piping into fold of fabric. Position covered piping beneath the foot so that the piping follows the groove on the under side of the foot. Sew the entire length of the strip. Using the Piping Hot Binding Tool and a rotary cutter and mat, trim your piping strip to a seam allowance. Pin the piping in place around the outer edge of the cover, matching raw edges. To finish the piping, cut off the end of the cording so it overlaps the starting point by 1. Remove approximately 1 of stitching from the cut end and trim the cording so the 2 pieces meet end to end. Fold under of overlapping fabric and lap it around the other end of the piping. Sew with the Piping Foot, moving the needle one position to the left (closer to the piping) to hide your previous stitching.
