~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
PCID's
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
- For Calibration Authorization passwords you will need to provide your Distribu
tor
with the INSITE 7.2 PCID.
- When registering INSITE 7.2 you will need the PCID to obtain a valid
subscription to register the new service tool.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Installation
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
- INSITE 7.2 has issues installing on Windows 2000 Service Pack 1 PC's.
Work around:
It is required that INSITE 7.2 not be installed on Windows 2000 SP1 PCs.
Upgrade to Windows 2000 Service Pack 4 before installing INSITE 7.2.
- When installing Chinese version of INSITE on Windows XP, East Asian Languages
Option in the Regional Settings must be selected in order for the Characters
to appear correctly.
- Installation might be slower than usual on PowerSweep machines due to the
McAfee Anti Virus.
(DB_G00073271)
- INSITE 7.2 does not support Windows 95 A, B or C, 98, 98SE, ME, and NT.
- Windows 2000, XP or Vista must have full administrative privileges to install.
After installation, INSITE can be run with User privileges.
- Windows XP x64 and Windows Vista 64-bit are not supported
- The Windows Installer window will randomly pop up and run while using INSITE.
(DB_G00092001)
- Refer to the following table for the hard drive space required for the
installation of INSITE 7.2. This is based on the assumption of "C" drive
Connections
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
- Error Messages for communication failures:
- Error 5200: Indicates communication loss between computer and the data
link
adapter.
- Error 5201: Indicates communication loss between the datalink adapter
and
the ECM.
- Error 5202: Indicates no communication could be established between th
e
datalink adapter and the computer.
- Error 5204: Indicates no communication could be established between th
e
datalink adapter and the ECM.
- Disconnect from ECM

After a successful connection, the Connect to ECM button in the side view bar
will
change to a Disconnect from ECM button. Clicking this button will disconnect
the
communication connection.
- Verify that the infrared port is disabled so the serial port is only being use
d
for ECM communications.
- If you have the Palm Pilot Hot Sync Manager on a PC that only has one serial p
ort,
you must disable the Hot Sync Manager before connecting to an ECM.
- An Internet connection is required before selecting the "www.cummins.com" link
from the Help About INSITE dialog.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Advanced ECM Data
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
- Real Time Clock
When connected to an ECM where the RTC was set with INSITE 5.4 the
Trip Information ECM Time (Key on Time) is not displayed as real time,
the time is displayed as ECM Time .
Work around:
Use standard ECM Time as reference when evaluating issues.
- To print Advanced ECM Data Views, select the parameter, right click and
click on Print.
- If the display becomes distorted or cannot be completely viewed, close the
Advanced ECM Data View and then reopen it. Resizing can cause the views to
become distorted.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Calibrations
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
- Automotive applications will have a default setting of "ON" for the Save and
Restore option in the Calibration Download dialog.
- Industrial applications will have a Default Setting of "OFF" for the Save and
Restore option in the Calibration Download dialog.
- When performing a Calibration Download, the "Save and Restore" option may be
grayed out for some applications.
- To decrease calibration download times please make sure all applications other
than INSITE are closed. Always use the J1939 protocol and engine connector
when available.
- Computers with less than the minimum recommended hardware requirements will ha
ve
an extended Calibration Download time. Make sure that screen savers and suspen
d
modes are disabled.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Display & Graphics
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
- Data Monitor/Logger columns will be narrow which will widen the rows if the sc
reen
resolution of the display is above 1280 by 1024.
Work Around: Change the screen resolution to 1280 X 1024 or lower or manually
adjust the
widths of the columns. (DB_G00118518)
- Use of Extended Desktop feature in Windows XP or Vista is not supported by INS
ITE 7.2.

cked)
by default.
- To Disable the "Display Feature Names" option for the view bar, the checkbox
in Tools/Options/General/Viewbar/Display Feature Names must be unchecked.
- If your PC monitor display is set to "Large Fonts", not all information in INS
ITE
may be displayed, Please use small fonts.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
ECM Diagnostic Tests
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
- When operating an ECM Test, make sure the Key switch remains in the ON positio
n
until the Stop button is selected in the ECM test.
- If the display becomes distorted or cannot be completely viewed, close the
ECM Diagnostic Tests View and then reopen it. Resizing may cause the view to
become distorted.
- When running the Lift Pump Override Test, the test will run for 60 seconds
and then INSITE will shut off the lift pump. The user needs to listen for the
lift pump to shut down and then close or restart the test.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Fault Codes
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
- If the Fault Codes window displays "No ECM Connected" while communicating, clo
se
and reopen INSITE.

- When using print preview use the tool bar magnifying glass to display the
text in a larger view.
- The Print options will be disabled when no printers are available. This inclu

des
the Page Setup, Print and Print Preview options.
Work around:
Setup/install a printer on the PC and retry the INSITE print selection.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Simulators
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
- Values shown in simulator do not reflect real values that would be seen by a u
ser
when connected to an engine.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Trip Information
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
- When resetting Trip Information be sure to key off for 30 seconds before conti
nuing.
The ECM may have an invalid foot print if the key is not switched off for the
required
amount of time.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
- When upgrading to INSITE 7.2 from any version of INSITE, the following files
need to be backed up:
- C:\Intelect\INSITE\WorkOrders
- C:\Intelect\INSITE\UserSettings\data.wo
- When using templates it is advised to verify the first template sent to the ta
rget
vehicle. This helps ensure the template configuration is correct for subsequen
t
vehicles.
- When using templates verify that the ECM code is compatible or the same.
- When naming images and templates, special characters cannot be used (i.e. & ^,
etc).
- The printout of an ECM Template does not contain any page numbers. (DB_G000923
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
B. Issues with ECM Applications
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
- User Activated Data Logger (UADL) is not supported.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
CELECT
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
- When calibrating a CELECT, you will need the ECM serial number and the SC opti
on
that is displayed in INSITE to receive calibration authorization password(s)
from QuickServe Online. (INSITE only displays the SC option and to get a valid
password the SC Option and ECM Serial Number need to be entered into the websi
te).
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
ISB/C/L - CM2150
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
- Service Brake Actuations under Trip Information, is off by a factor of 10. Fo
r
example, INSITE 7.2 may display 123.4, but the actual number of Service Brake
Actuations is 1234.0 (PR DB_G00127895).l
- Features and Parameters
- J1939 Multiplexing
If the "J1939 Multiplexing" feature and its sub-features are enabled,
they cannot all be disabled at the same time and sent to the ECM,
INSITE displays an error dialog stating that "The write to ECM failed
for the requested parameters."
- Engine Brake Control
If a phase 8 calibration is currently in the ECM, the Engine Brake
Delay Time value might be set to zero regardless of the actual value
entered for this parameter in the Features and Parameters.
Work around:
Check the value for the Calibration Software Phase in INSITE (can be f
ound
in Features & Parameters/System ID & Dataplate/Calibration Information
).
If it starts with 08, then download the latest version of the ECM Code
to
resolve this issue.
only left bank fault code data and not of right bank's.
(DB_G00054295)
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
QSK19/45/60-CM500
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
- When calibrating a QSK19/45/60-CM500 ECM using an INLINE II, avoid using a
connection with "Auto Detect" as the calibration might fail.
Work around:
Use an INLINE II connection that uses J1587/J1708 instead of Auto Detect.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
- Work Orders
Images in a QSK19G/45G/60G, QSV81/91 Work Order can only be connected to as
individual images and not as a system
(DB_G00052563)
- When connected to a work order image, the AEM feature will cause errors to
occur. The tool displays error 35054 when connected to either child ECM
and selecting AEM Enhanced Fault snapshot log or AEM Trend Log.
- Data Monitor Logger
The Commanded Throttle Angle parameter displayed by INSITE 7.2 is off by a fac
tor

of 10. For example, INSITE 7.2 will display 1.3 when the actual value is 13.
(DB_G00128111)
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
QSM 11
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
- Calibration Selection
When calibrating QSM11 engines utilizing Multiple Unit Synchronization,
J1708 protocol must be used. The calibration will not download to the ECM
successfully if J1939 protocol is used. If both J1708 and J1939 protocols
are available on the Datalink, an INLINE or INLINE I must be used to access
the J1708 protocol.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
C. Datalink Adapters INLINE, INLINE I, INLINE II and RP1210A
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
- The INLINE II Adapter must contain Version 9.28 or greater firmware to be
compatible with INSITE 7.2. You must use the Reflash program that was
installed with INSITE "INLINE Reflash".
- For instructions on how to Reflash your INLINE II Adapter refer to the help
button in the INLINE Reflash program.
- INSITE 7.2 supports all the Cummins Service Products INLINE, INLINE I,
INLINE II and RP1210A (INLINE 4/5) Adapters.
The INLINE and INLINE I Adapters support the J1587/J1708 protocol and
INLINE II and RP1210A (INLINE 4/5) Adapters currently supports J1587/J1708
and J1939 protocol for most ECM applications.
- The latest Inline 4/5 drivers can be downloaded from http://inline.cummins.com
After installing the latest drivers, make sure to reflash the adapter to the

Datalink Adapter Issues
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
- Do not substitute cables, except as indicated in the INLINE II Product
Announcement Bulletin.
- Do not use an extension cable on the Datalink side of the INLINE II adapter.
- Incompatible cables may damage the INLINE, INLINE I INLINE II and/or INLINE 4/
5
adapter or personal computer and will void warranty.
- Incompatible cables may cause communication issues with INSITE.
- INLINE II or INLINE 4/5 adapter may intermittently lose communication. If you
r
Datalink adapter has communication problems, disconnect power from the adapter
for 5 seconds and then reconnect. The INSITE program does not need to be shutd
own.
- There is a Reset Adapter feature under the Tools - Datalink menu that will
correct some software communication errors with the INLINE II and INLINE 4/5.
- The main harness (backbone) has a maximum overall length of 40 meters.
- A J1939 stub, which can be a connection point for ECM's and/or the
INLINE II or INLINE 4/5 Datalink adapter, cannot exceed a maximum length of 1
meter.
- At each end of the backbone harness is a terminating resistor with a
nominal resistance of 120 Ohms, it will measure 60 Ohms when you measure
across the Datalink.
- The INLINE II and INLINE 4/5 Adapters should be connected to a continuous
battery power supply. When making adjustments with INSITE, including calibrat
ion
download, the operator will be asked to switch the key off for 30 seconds.
If the adapter is getting its power from a power source dependent on the key
switch status, such as the lighter adapter inside the cab, the Adapter will lo
se
power, which will result in INSITE losing connection to the ECM. This will
require the operator to reconnect to the ECM and the adjustments might not
have been saved.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Power Savers
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
- Turn off any power saver features when communicating with an ECM,
especially when downloading a calibration to an ECM. These commands
