DoctorKnow TechNote Title: Product: Program: Version: Technology: Technote Number: How Many Revolutions in a Waveform?

Application Notes App Notes 3.50, 4.3X Vibration 00-01487

The simple formula for the number of shaft revolutions in a waveform is: Revolutions in the Waveform = RPM * Number of Points 153.6 * Fmax Maximum Frequency is the term used in the Special Time Waveform screen in Analysis Parameter Set setup. It is the same as Fmax. 153.6 is 2.56 * 60 - see below for details: SampleRate = 2.56 * Fmax --> Samples per second 1/SampleRate = DeltaT = 1/(2.56 * Fmax) --> Seconds per sample NumPoints * DeltaT = NumPoints / (2.56 * Fmax) --> Seconds (this is the acquisition time) Turning Speed = RPM / 60 --> Revolutions per second NumRevolutions = Revolutions per second * Seconds = (RPM / 60) * NumPoints/(2.56 * Fmax) = (RPM * NumPoints) / (60 * 2.56 * Fmax) More simplified formula for shaft revolutions: Fmax must be in orders #lines / Fmax in orders= # Shaft revolutions
