Wednesday, May 9, 2012 at 6:30 p.m. in the Worship Center

The First Baptist Church Naples family will be honoring the life of Chuck Colson who graduated to glory on Saturday, April 21, 2012. As a member of this church body for 20 years, we will miss this mighty man of God who advanced the cause of Christ through his leadership, godly wisdom, preaching, and prolific writing. The Enricher and Band of Brothers Bible studies have been cancelled on this Wednesday evening. We urge all adults to join us for the Worship Service. Our music ministry will provide uplifting worship. Dr. Wicker will preach and Dr. Jim Liske, President of Prison Fellowship, will share. Patty Colson, Chucks wife, will also be in attendance. Guest books and baskets for cards will be available. All preschool, children, and youth ministries will be held as per our usual schedule. The Colson family has requested that in lieu of flowers, donations be made to the Charles Colson Legacy Fund. Donations can be made online at www.chuckcolson.org, or checks mailed to Bonnie Knapton at the Colson Center, 44180 Riverside Parkway, Lansdowne, VA 20176.

End Times People

It gives me great joy to welcome my friend, Dr. Gary Frazier, to our pulpit this weekend. Janet and I are away at Cedarville University watching our last child, Allyson, graduate. Gary pastored for a number of years in New Orleans, but is best known as one of our nations leading authorities on the subject of prophecy and the end times. He is also an avid student of Israel, having made 150 trips there. His books reflect his vast knowledge of eschatology and a keen awareness of how current events unfold according to Gods prophetic timetable. He is used by God as an evangelist around the nation, often seeing dozens of people come to Christ during a single worship service. Of course, Janet and I are experiencing another end time, the end of parenting a child in college and watching her enter independent adulthood. Allyson has accepted a position teaching first grade in a Christian school in Dayton, Ohio in the fall. She has been a great blessing to the teenage girls in our youth group here and will be assisting our youth pastors this summer. She impacted a number of teens last year as a volunteer. Allyson, whose name means truth, is also named Marie, her mothers middle name. Her purity and single-minded devotion to Jesus reminds me of Mary who was privileged to bear and nurture the Son of Man. Allyson has been a constant ray of sunshine over these years. She can also say, The Mighty One has done great things for me (Luke 1:49). We are amazed at Gods goodness at giving us three children. In spite of various physical challenges, the Lord gave us Kristin and then later He brought Evan to us. All three were a fulfillment of a special word from the Word that we would have children like olive plants around our table (Psalm 128:3). Becoming a dad of infant Allyson at 40 was one of Gods beautiful gifts to keep me young! As Allyson ends a season of her life, we hope that we have given her both roots and wings. A parents work is never really done, but we believe that God will greatly use her to impact the next generation. Join us in praying that if it is His will that God will lead a wonderful husband to her like He brought Eric to Kristin and a godly young lady to Evan like his sisters. Thank you again for loving them, ministering to them as they grew up, and for continuing to be interested in their lives. I look forward to being back in the pulpit next week.
