Need a great partner and whole class activity that requires nothing more than pens, pencils and

notebook paper to review all of the verbs youve taught this year (both meanings and conjugations) while engaging your kids at the same time? Check this out! (Note: The instructions for this game are written for a Spanish teacher, but can be adapted for any language class!) This activity can be as short as 10 minutes and can last as long as your entire class period depending on your time constraints. We have easily identified where you may stop this activity by placing a line break at the appropriate spots. 1) 2) 3) Get students in pairs. Have pairs clear everything from their desks except for a pen or pencil. Give each pair a sheet of notebook paper and tell students to select one person as the recorder. When you say En sus marcas, listos, fuera! (On your marks, get set, go!), students have four minutes in their pairs to write down as many verbs as they can remember from the year. They must write the verbs in their infinitive forms along with the English translations. At the end of four minutes, have students put their pens or pencils down. Have students count up the number of verbs they came up with. (They must have written both the infinitive in Spanish and the English translation in order for the verb to count!) Have the pair with the highest number of verbs read their verbs and English translations to the class as you write the verbs and their English translations on the board. As they read each verb and you write them on the board, ask the class questions such as, Is this verb regular? What is irregular about this verb? Is this a stem-changing verb? In which form(s) is this verb irregular? (Note: You may choose to give the pair who came up with the highest number of verbs a prize.) ___________________________________________ 6) Have students flip their sheets of notebook paper over. In their pairs, they must use any ten verbs on the board to create subject-verb combinations with the correct conjugations of the verbs written at the end. Encourage students to mix up the subjects for the verbs. (ex: l: hablar habla; nosotros: vivir - vivimos) Collect the sheets of notebook paper. ____________________________________________ 8) 9) Divide the class into two teams. Have each team come up with a team name. Select one person to be score keeper. Have one student from each team come up to the front of the room.

10) Read a subject-verb combination from one of the sheets of notebook paper you collected. (Quickly skim the answer to the subject-verb combination for accuracy before you read.) The first student to raise their hand and conjugate the verb correctly for the subject scores a point for their team. (If you have an answer buzzer or bell, you may use that instead of having the students raise their hands.) If they do not conjugate the verb correctly, the other team scores a point. If no student raises their hand, have the class say the answer in unison. No team scores a point. Read one more verb for the two students up front to conjugate. If neither raises their hand again, have the class say the answer in unison again and call two new students from each team to come up to the front. Continue play. 11) The first team to score fifteen points wins!
