Sysadmin User Guide
Prepared by: Larry Sherrod Release Date: 06/01/2011

This document defines some of the basics of System Administration. As an

Oracle system administrator you are responsible for setting up new users,
creating custom responsibilities, custom menus, administering folders managing
concurrent managers and installing printers.

User Setup

Navigate to the Users screen. You

should see the screen below less the
data shown.

Even though you

input the password,
Oracle will require
them to change it
the first time they
log on. Oracle encrypts passwords so if someone forgets theirs, you must reset
it for them. If the PERSON list does not include their name, you must add it as
an employee.

Once you have input the header information, you must assign at least one
responsibility to them. When you have assigned their responsibilities, save your
work. The USER is now ready.

Responsibilities

You can create custom responsibilities even using “seeded” menus, data groups
and request groups. Navigate to the
Responsibilities screen as shown below.

There are many

standard menus and
submenus within
Oracle. You can use them to develop your own custom responsibilities.

DO NOT change seeded responsibilities.

Menus

If the standard menus and submenus do not fit your business needs, you can
create custom menus.
Navigate to the Menu screen as shown
below.

Menus can be made of collections of submenus or collections of functions

(forms). It is best to base your custom menus on “seeded” menus. DO NOT
change the “seeded” menus. You can copy Prompts, Submenus and Functions
to any new menu by bringing up two forms and cutting and pasting from one to
the other.

Administering Folders

Navigate to the Administer Folder form.

The Find Folders form will open.

It is best to link your folders to any custom responsibilities you have created.
This means users of that responsibility will all see the same folder options as
each other.

The screen to the left

tells the system for every
user of the
Manufacturing Manager
responsibility to open the
Inventory Quantity
screen using the “Test”
folder.

Concurrent Managers

Concurrent Managers manage the background activities of the system.

Navigate to the Administer Concurrent

Managers form. You should see the
screen below.

This is a listing of all concurrent managers whether they are running or not. Each
list will vary based on the setup of the database instance. If the status is blank
and there are numbers in the Processes columns, the managers are running. It
is possible to have the managers running but not processing data. In this case,
you may see Requests with numbers in the Running and Pending columns but a
0 in the Processes column. If this is the case you may need to Deactivate the
manager and restart it.
