NUS Presidents Letter to Freshmen (AY2011/12) Registration Guide for Undergraduate Students Dear NUS Undergraduate,

A very warm welcome to our NUS family and to the NUS experience that awaits you! We know that you would be eager to know more about our University, the various courses and programmes available, as well as practical information that you will need to take full advantage of the many opportunities which NUS offers. NUS is committed to providing our students great flexibility and choice as part of a rigorous broad-based education. We believe that this will enable our students to pursue their interests and to explore new areas which will challenge and stretch them academically and as individuals. The hallmark of NUS is our rich suite of global education opportunities. One in every two students go abroad for summer programmes, field trips, student conferences, overseas student exchange programmes, entrepreneurial internships at our NUS Overseas Colleges, and double degree and joint degree programmes with other top universities from around the world. As a research-intensive university, our undergraduates can also participate in cutting-edge research in a wide range of disciplines across our campus. Beyond academic work, NUS offers the richest possible menu of intellectual, social and cultural activities and programmes. For example, you could choose from more than a hundred student organizations or be part of one of our Halls of Residence, with their diverse and distinctive student life traditions. Another unique residential experience is University Town, which will open its doors in August 2011 featuring the first two Residential Colleges for undergraduates which will also offer small-group residential college learning. I very much hope that you would take full advantage of the myriad of opportunities which are open to you. I truly believe that the years in university are the best years of ones life. You will gain in the measure you participate. I therefore encourage you to immerse yourself fully in all aspects of campus life. You will find the experience enjoyable and rewarding, you will form many friendships and fond memories, and in the process, you will grow as a person and as a leader. Please look through this Registration Guide, and enjoy!

With best wishes

Tan Chorh Chuan 83 President
