Integrators and end-user customers have asked "How can I modify the Report Expert report templates?" and "How can I create custom Report Expert templates?" Information in this article is intended to help answer these two questions. Attached is a document entitled "Creating Custom Reports Using DPE v.2.0.pdf", which does three things: 1. Explains how the Report Expert DPE (Data Processing Extension) works as a custom data source for Microsoft Reporting Services. Using the DPE is required to create Report Expert Reports. 2. Explains how Report Expert report templates are constructed in Microsoft Reporting Services. 3. Shows, step by step, in a "hands-on lab" manner, how to construct a subreport that can become part of a Report Expert report template. Also attached is a Business Intelligence Development Studio (BIDS) project that will help you to get started on modifying or creating report templates. Creating reports using the methodology described will result in reports that: 1. Take full advantage of the parameter-set behavior of Report Expert, including dynamic filtering and dynamic grouping. 2. Have the same drill-down and drill-through behavior as standard report templates 3. Have the same capability for Terminology and language switching as standard report templates. This documentation applies to Report Expert 2.0 (contained in FactoryTalk Metrics 9.10) only. It does not apply to earlier versions. This documentation assumes the user has some experience with both Microsoft Reporting Services and Visual Studio (or BIDS).
