On Sunday, May 6, Elizabeth Kay Libby Bebinger went to be with our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, after

battling with Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis (ALS) for 19 years. Libbys heroic battle with this devastating disease will be understated in this small space. Suffice it to say she was the focal point a fabric of admirers, contributors, caregivers, prayer warriors, and family members that only grew with time as she fought her disease. Born October 23, 1970, she grew up in Alamo Heights following in the footsteps of her father, James Calvin Bebinger, and three siblings, Martha, Carol, and David in attending Cambridge Elementary and Alamo Heights High School, graduating in 1989. Her high school career and adult life were forged by the friendships she made through her many activities including varsity cheerleading, track and field as well as leadership in the Fellowship of Christian Athletes and other organizations. She then attended Southwest Texas State University (now Texas State) where she was president of Zeta Tau Alpha sorority and majored in communications and Spanish. She graduated in 1994 around 6 months after her formal diagnosis with Lou Gehrigs disease. Instead of following her mother, Floy Sylvia Martin Bebinger into the teaching profession she was forced to come to grips with a terminal illness typically claiming its victims in 3-5 years. Much of Libbys next two decades involved the ever shifting challenge of being a living witness to the love of Jesus Christ as her speech failed, followed by her legs, then an inability to feed herself, perform any self care and finally Sunday morning with an inability to breathe. Up until the end all of her family members and friends received regular updates on her life (and advice on their lives), caregivers received friendship and conflict mediation, and Jesus received a lot of prayers for all of us which are no doubt continuing into perpetuity. Libby, Aunt Bucky, is survived by her immediate family members Sylvia, Martha, Carol, and David. Her father Jim passed away when Libby was seven. She took great pride in and had great love for her ten nieces and nephews who are split evenly between Austin, Texas and Boston, Massachusetts. Carol and her husband Colby Smith have the Austin five. The Boston group is split between Martha Bebinger and Adam Marks as well as David Bebinger and Angela Belcher. Visitation will be held on Tuesday, May 8th from 6:00 P.M. to 8:00 P.M. at Porter Loring on McCullough. SERVICE WEDNESDAY, MAY 9, 2012, 1:00 P.M. ALAMO HEIGHTS UNITED METHODIST CHURCH 825 E. Interment will be private for the family at Sunset Memorial Park. While Libby most wanted her life to be an instrument for others to meet and deepen their relationship with Jesus Christ she did have charities that she was more sympathetic towards and contributions could be made to the following: the 700 Club, The ALS Association, or the Jefferson State Bank in care of Libby Bebinger.
