The new academic year has started on a positive note. The institute has been ranked 9th among all B-Schools in India (Business World - 27th June 2011) The volatility in the economy and the market place is continuously oering challenges to students and the faculty. To face the challenges, the institute, as is the practice, consulted the recruiters, industry representatives and reputed academicians and took feedback from the alumni and students and reviewed the curriculum. After discussion in the Board of Studies for the programme, several new courses and topics were added. The institute also revamped its selection process and weightage of some parameters were changed and several new parameters were added to select students, who would be able to take on the challenges mentioned above. Students of this batch have been and will continue to be exposed to the thinking, intellect and experiences of a large number of professionals from industry through various co-curricular events and guest lectures, for which a weekly schedule is prepared at the beginning of the academic year. The institute sensitizes to the emerging areas in their domains by these interactions. Somaiya Vidyavihar campus oers great scope for value based synergetic learning with other academic disciplines, competitive events, sports and cultural fusion to enrich the overall personality of the students. We request you to visit us at the campus and select students with a view to oer them challenging projects. Message from the Director

At K.J. Somaiya Institute of Management Studies and Research we continually face challenges and how we view them de nes us. Do we choose to see the challenges as stepping stones or as obstacles? If we choose to see them as obstacles, then the challenges we face, will be viewed as problemsproblems that need to be overcome along with all the negative connotations associated with the problems. A great deal of energy can be spent focusing on a negative mindset- mindset like I cant, I wontI dont want to and I shouldnt have to. And this will be a wasteful exercise. We at SIMSR, however, choose to see challenges as stepping stones-opportunities that we have encountered along the way for us to use, to step on so that we achieve more, develop further and ultimately actualize our vision and mission. Our vision is to be amongst the top 100 B-schools in the world by the year 2025 and our mission is to create holistically developed value based corporate citizens committed to the sustainable growth of the country. To achieve our vision and mission we are transforming and process obviously, is not very comfortable. The entire process is akin to a caterpillar transforming into a Butter y. The process is, no doubt, painful but the end result is extremely pleasant. If we have to become a world-class institution the role of students cannot be negated. We train our students to be well-behaved and disciplined individuals exhibiting never ending quest for learning. At SIMSR we ensure that students not only learn the existing business strategies but also question the same and get ready to innovate and experiment. Business is all about innovation and innovations come through those who are willing to experiment and commit mistakes. In their journey to innovations our students nd the team of our faculty members at SIMSR always willing to mentor and facilitate them towards achieving their goals. Our endeavor has also been to inculcate human values amongst the young minds. The lack of human values is eroding India and its Indianness as is evident by Mass Corruption, Gross Ineciency and All-round indiscipline that we are witnessing today. Another distinguishing quality that our students imbibe over a period of their stay in the campus is Humility. Unless we practice humility we cannot aspire for higher things. Humility is about saying God has been kind to me to make me come this far; there are people out there who are much better than me. Keeping in line with our vision, we ensure that students coming out of our institute have a de nite competitive edge over others in terms of their domain knowledge, soft skills and their ethical behavior. This holistic development prepares them to take up any challenge that they will face in their professional lives. The rigorous training at our institute prepares them to take any position of responsibility and come up to the expectations of their employers. In the past, too, our students have made a mark in their careers and are occupying leading positions in various corporates. This, obviously, gives us great con dence in inviting you to our campus for summer placement of our students in various functional areas of business. We take this opportunity to seek your support in our journey towards excellence, and would like to establish and reinforce strategic alliances with the corporate world to create a unique niche for ourselves in the fraternity of business schools in the country.
