(Project)

Overview
In todays life, trust is a conspicuous part. Being lucky enough, I gained a lot of it from my parents that now it has come to some extent that I am moreover a friend instead of a son to them and I never want to break that trust but due to my one bad habit, I am somehow scared that it may rupture. That habit is telling a lie, a lie that does not even matters. No life is dependent on that nor is it harmful to anyone. It is a sort of a lie that just comes out of my mouth when I am confused which eventually is increasing and I hate it because after all a lie is a lie and my parents dont deserve to be delivered with a lie.

Target Goal
Target I put down on my life is to get rid of telling lies to people that matter in my life so the goal is to eradicate it from my mind. I know the advantages of truth and I want to cherish my soul with them. So the little lies I am telling my dad when he calls me and asks where are you? And instead of telling him the accurate time, always replying dad I am just 2 minutes away I always want to tell him to truth but I cant because I am scared that he will yell at me, I get confused and always say what comes to my mouth. I want to get rid of it because I know he cares and is worried about me. More like telling lies to my dad I have other people in life too to whom I am being lying.

Design
On my phone (which is one of my worst habits) I tell a lot of lies and for that I have somehow tamed my mind to take 3 long breaths prior receiving a call and not to get confused of anything and just tell the exact scenario about what you are being asked.

ABC model

To alter ones behavior the ABC model is used. One can evaluate his/her own bad behavior and by applying this model the person can tend to change the bad behavior. ABC model basically consists of three parts mentioned as follows Antecedent Behavioral Consequence

An antecedent always occurs before the bad behavior is going to take place following the behavior needs to be described in operational terms ending up with the reinforcement of outcome of the event. Events which continuously hit the target are antecedents, the behavior targeted for and consequences are the events which consistently follow.

The consequences now have two different yet simple types referred as positive and negative. It is simple to keep in mind that when it is positive, there is reinforcement. Which in other words mean to develop a behavior and when it is negative, there is always punishment. Which in other words mean, to reduce the behavior.

Reinforcements and Punishments

The term reinforces means to strengthen and is used in phycology to refer to anything stimulus which strengthens or increases the probability of a specific response. For Example, if I want to stop telling lies than I will have to treat myself in the end which will be interesting for me and in regards I will never lie i.e if I tell myself that I will always get me a new watch if I dont lie to my parents. So that will resist me from telling lies because I would know that I will be rewarded anyhow. So this is how I will develop a habit and is called reinforcement whereas punishment always refers to adding something aversive in order to decrease the behavior. For Example I will put on a duty of my best friend that when he is with me, he should spank me or punch me in the face when I tell a lie or I will ask my brother to stop giving me the keys of car if I will ever lie on my location.

Defining problem
The problem is already recognized that I tell a lot of lies which is unhealthy for me and the relationships I am carrying so. This also later on makes me depress that is why I need to be authentic and always tell the truth.

Altering an Individuals Current Environment


This behavior is also caused by environment and in my family I dont think there is anyone how lies like I do so probably its my gathering or few of my friends who also have the same position. I need to avoid them.

Methods and Rationale


The most important method I am using is to gain confidence. When my father gives me a phone call I am internally scared that I dont know what I did? So being confident naturally helps me to talk and tell the truth. I gain confidence by taking three long breaths prior to the call or any situation like this having pressure. This all comes in the ABC model.

Techniques Are Often Applied In Everyday Life


When an inappropriate behavior is identified, targeted and changed. A new appropriate behavior is developed and is carried out more like an example of what is night? Night is not darkness; there is just the absence of sunlight. So new techniques are also identified and experimented.

Specifically Operant and Respondent Conditioning


Operant conditioning is a learning process that involves an increase or decrease in the likelihood of some behavior as a result of the consequences. I am using reinforcement to cure my problem because positive reinforcement makes me feel good and pure after telling the truth. While taking 3 long breaths is unconditional stimulus and confidence is neutral but later it becomes conditional stimulus because if I will ever take three long breaths I will be confident automatically and will get to know that I dont have to lie.

Conclusion
This subject has helped me a lot to tame myself according to my morals and my religion as well. After identifying and targeting I think of possible solutions and i try to implement them and with the help of ABC model I reinforced myself and now I am well cognizant of how to control my tongue and not to tell a lie whether its my friends or family.
