1. The Thevenin equivalent impedances calculated at bus 5 in a power system

are given as Z55 (1).z55(2)= 14% and Z55m= 20%, expressed on the system
bases of 85 MVA and 34 KV. Find the magnitude of the fault current (in
actual amps) that would result for a bolted, line-to-line fault at bus 5 between
B-phase and C-phase. Find all three line-line voltages (in actual volts) at bus
5 during the fault. Assume the bus voltages are 1.0 pu when the fault occurs
(30 Points)
and neglect load current.

2. For the following generator, find the value of Xn (in actual ohms) that will limit
the fault current resulting from a single-line-to-ground fault at the generator
terminals to that of a three-phase fault at the same location. Assume the
generator is operating at rated voltage (1.0 pu) when the fault occurs. Also,
assume the system bases are the same as the generator bases.

3. In the following power system, the circuit breaker and relay are protecting the
line with the impedances shown. The relay is a Westinghouse CO-8
overcurrent relay, and the breaker is designed to open 6 cycles after it
receives a trip signal from the relay. The current transformer is set at a 600/5
amp ratio, and the CO-8 relay has a Tap Setting (TS) of 5 amps, and a Time
Dial Setting (TDS) of 2. The generator neutral impedance is based on the
ratings of the generator. Assume the generator is operating at its rated
voltage and is unloaded when a bolted, single-line-to-ground fault occurs on
A- phase at the end of the line at point X. How long will it take for the breaker
to open? Assume a system base of 40 MVA, 45 KV in the "LINE" portion of
the system. (40 Points)
