August 13 the children were prevented by local authorities from going to the Cova da Iria, but they saw the apparition on the 19th. On September 13 the Lady requested recitation of the Rosary for an end to the war. Finally, on October 13, the "Lady" identified herself as "Our Lady of the Rosary" and again called for prayer and penitence. On that day a celestial phenomenon also took place: the sun seemed to tumble from the sky and crash toward earth. The children had been forewarned of it as early as May 13, the first apparition. The large crowd (estimated at 30,000 by reporters) that had gathered around the children saw the phenomenon and came away astounded. Official recognition of the "visions" which the children had at the Cova da Iria came on October 13, 1930, when the bishop of Leiria - after long inquiry - authorized the cult of Our Lady of the Rosary at the site. The two younger children had died: Francisco (who saw the apparition but did not hear the words) on April 4, 1919, and his sister Jacinta on February 20, 1920. Sister Lucia died on February 13, 2005, at her Carmelite convent in Coimbra, Portugal, after a long illness.
Excerpted from Dictionary of Mary, Catholic Book Publishing Company.
THE MESSAGE OF FATIMA The public message of Fatima recalls that of Lourdes. Through the children Mary urges prayer for sinners, recitation of the Rosary, and works of penance. On October 13 she said: "I have come to exhort the faithful to change their lives, to avoid grieving Our Lord by sin; to pray the Rosary. I desire in this place a chapel in my honor. If people mend their ways, the war will soon be over." But Mary also confided several "secrets" to the children, some of which Lucy subsequently transmitted. Presumably there was prediction of another war in the near future and a request for special veneration of the Immaculate Heart of Mary. The final secret Lucy is thought to have entrusted to Pope John XXIII. As at Lourdes, the "apparitions" of Fatima have brought crowds of visitors. Pilgrimages, which began in the summer of 1917, have experienced growing success, not only among the Portuguese themselves but also among people from other countries, including the United States. The national pilgrimage following ecclesiastical recognition of the apparitions (May 13, 1931) is said to have drawn more than a million participants. Popes have shown exceptional favor toward Fatima, Pius XII, Paul VI, and John Paul II in particular making a visit to the shrine. The papal interest and the basilica built at the site of the apparitions has helped to swell the summer pilgrimages to Fatima. Crowds comparable to, and sometimes larger than, those at Lourdes are not uncommon. In a rustic setting, pilgrims hear the message repeated that Mary spoke to the children: prayer, works of penance, recourse to her Immaculate Heart. OUR LADY OF FATIMA - PILGRIM VERSION In 1917, at Fatima, Portugal, the Blessed Mary appeared to three children several times. She urged the children to pray the Rosary in sorrow for sin, and for the conversation of sinners. Each time she appeared, our Lady said, "Say the Rosary every day as a family to obtain peace for the world". During the reign of Pope Pius XII, the custom developed of having a statue of Our Lady of Fatima carried from place to place to encourage people to respond to Mary's request. This custom has spread throughout many countries. We have such a statute here at St. Anthony's. You may welcome Our Lady of Fatima statue into your home for one week to pray the Rosary for the conversion of sinners, for the offenses committed against the Immaculate Heart of Mary, and for peace in the world. If you would like to schedule a week to have Our Lady in your home, please contact the Parish Office.
LEGION OF MARY It is a world-wide organization of Catholics, men and women, who offer their services to their pastor to aid him in performing spiritual works in the parish. This is done by placing themselves under the banner of Mary so that with her help they may develop greater holiness in their own lives as well as spread a deeper devotion to her among others. We meet every Tuesday at 5:00pm at the Sierra Room at the Parish Office for a weekly meeting, prayer and discussion of assign work. The objective is taking Mary as our role model, endeavor to imitate her virtues, especially her Faith, Charity and Humility. To spread devotion to Mary through recitation of the Rosary.
FATIMAS FAITHFUL Fatima's Faithful is a group of people who come together once a month, the last Thursday, to pray the Holy Rosary; live, learn, and spread the authentic messages of Our Lady given to 3 shepherd children at Fatima in 1917. We are all called by Our Lady Her faithful children, doing as She asked us at Fatima to end wars and bring about an era of peace in the world where Her Immaculate Heart will reign. Mary has the plan and no else! Mary asks that we all: Pray the Rosary every day; make a personal Consecration to the Immaculate Heart of Mary that is so essential a component of the Fatima Message; and partake in the Communion of Reparation on the Five First Saturdays. Fatima's Faithful welcomes all, young, old and all in between! Our ministry has just begun reading and discussing Fr. Andrew Apostoli's latest book entitled, Fatima For Today - The Urgent Marian Message of Hope. Come learn the message of prayer, sacrifice, suffering and holiness of life. It is Pope Benedict the XVI who told us to learn, live, and spread the message of Fatima! And Venerable Pope John Paul II once stated that the message of Fatima was more important now than in 1917! Fr. Donald Calloway, MIC, said "That is why this wonderful book on Fatima is so important. Fr. Apostoli has recaptured this heavenly message of urgency and hope for a new generation. Our world needs the message of Fatima more than ever, and I pray that many people are brought back to Jesus, Mary, and the Church through these pages."
THE MEMORARE Remember, O most gracious Virgin Mary, that never was it known that anyone who fled to your protection, implored your help or sought your intercession, was left unaided. Inspired by this confidence, I fly unto you, O Virgin of virgins, my Mother. To you I come, before you I stand, sinful and sorrowful. O Mother of the Word incarnate, despise not my petitions, but, in your mercy, hear and answer me. Amen.

Reflexin personal
El Padre es el agricultor, el viador. Qu realidades me est podando?
