Organization: Cairo Institute for Human Rights Studies (CIHRS). Location: Cairo, Egypt. Position: Human Rights Education Officer. Starting Date: Immediately. Salary: the remuneration will be commensurate with the experience of the applicant, and competitive rates in Egyptian NGOs. Background about CIHRS The Cairo Institute for Human Rights Studies (CIHRS) is an independent regional nongovernmental organization founded in 1994. It aims at promoting respect for the principles of human rights and democracy, analyzing the difficulties facing the application of International Human Rights Law and disseminating Human Rights Culture in the Arab Region as well as engaging in dialogue between cultures. A key part of CIHRS' mandate is to help shape the understanding of the most pressing human rights issues within the region and then to coordinate and mobilize the key players and NGOs from across the Arab world to work together towards solutions. CIHRS enjoys consultative status in the United Nations ECOSOC, and observer status in the African Commission on Human and Peoples' Rights. CIHRS is also a member of the EuroMediterranean Human Rights Network (EMHRN), the International Freedom of Expression Exchange (IFEX) and is an Observer Member of the International Federation for Human Rights (FIDH). CIHRS was awarded the French Republic Award for Human Rights in December 2007. Job Purpose The Program Officer is responsible for providing leadership and daily management of the CIHRS Human Rights Education Program (HREP). The Program Officer will work under the direct supervision of the Deputy Director. Tasks Contributing to defining CIHRS human rights educational priorities and development of its general plans. Proposing and drafting the programs detailed plans within the framework of CIHRS strategies. Designing training activities and defining resources necessary for implementation. Leading the implementation of the planned activities, monitoring and evaluating its outcomes and impact. Facilitating training sessions including working groups. Contributing to publications and materials on human rights education (writing, evaluation etc).

Developing CIHRS relationships with partners and institutions working in the field of human rights education nationally, regionally and internationally. Contributing to human rights education material resources. Required qualifications A university degree in relevant social science fields (e.g. Political science, Anthropology, Sociology). Relevant work experience strongly preferred. Knowledge of and experience in several of the following fields: 1. 2. 3. 4. 5. Human rights standards and international humanitarian law. Planning for and designing of human rights education activities. interpersonal skills including leadership and participatory skills. Fluency in oral and written of both Arabic and English. Advanced communication skills (oral and written) and proven ability to draft clearly and succinctly. 6. Administrative and organizational skills. 7. Computer knowledge (MS Word, Internet, Power Point). 8. Ability to establish and maintain contacts with NGOs, universities, representatives of inter-governmental institutions and to work effectively in a multicultural environment. Analytical skills, resourceful and organised work practices with capacity to deal effectively with changing priorities, ability to keep deadlines and deal with several projects simultaneously. Conditions At least two years of relevant experience. Readiness to travel within and outside Egypt. Readiness to work extra hours when required.
