Synchronous and Asynchronous Serial Data over Fiber FRM220-Data V.35, RS-530/449, X.21, RS-232 (Fiber Optical Modem)

Introduction
The FRM220-Data is a fiber modem for high speed, up to 9.152Mbps, synchronous and low speed synchronous or asynchronous data transmissions (V.35, RS-232, RS-530, X.21 or RS-449). The FRM220-Data fiber modem can be paired with FRM220-E1/T1 for Nx64K transmissions up to 2048Kbps. All Fiber Modems are available with either multi-mode or single-mode optical transceiver and with connectors for SC, ST, or FC. In single mode, WDM (Wave Division Multiplexing with SC connector) is also available in 20, 40, or 60KM reach, which will provide the ability to transmit and receive data using only a single optical fiber. A unique feature of the FRM220-Data fiber modem is the use of a common card design which may either be inserted in the FRM220-CH01 single slot chassis as a stand-alone modem or as a card when placed in the FRM220-CH20 In-band managed rack. The FRM220-DATA utilizes a HDB26F, 26 pin female connector, to reduce the connector footprint on the card. Adapter cables provide the exact physical connection for the required interface standard. The electrical interface is settable by DIP switch, or by NMC manager in FRM220 chassis for fully balanced RS-530 (includes X.21 and RS-449), for V.35 or for RS232. The FRM220-DATA also features a DIP or software settable personality for DCE or DTE, eliminating the need for any extra null-modem cables.

The timing options provide for independent operation of clocks for Transmit Clock and Receive Clock. The TC and RC may be clocked from internal oscillator, from the data port external clock (via ETC pin) or recovered from the fiber receive side. Independent clocks for TC and RC may be used when upstream and downstream data rates are asymmetric, as is sometimes the case with VSAT applications. The FRM220-DATA can fully meet these special application requirements, while extending transmissions up to 120KM over fiber.

Application
The FRM220-Data modem works in point-to-point applications, either as a stand-alone or when placed in the FRM220-CH20 managed rack. Additionally, a remote FRM220-Data can be linked to a local FRM220E1/T1 to provide fractional E1 DSU/CSU functions.

Clocking
The modem's clocking has completely independent transmit and receive clocks (TC & RC) with clock source selectable for each from internal oscillator, external clock, local RC clock, local TC clock, remote TC clock or remote RC clock.
