Dampers
Class A Classification is common for Offshore applications: Fire Dampers rated for A-0 class divisions are required to pass a 1 hour fire test. Fire dampers for A-60 divisions must maintain integrity and resist the passage of flame for a period of greater than 60 minutes, the temperature rise on the external surface of the damper must not rise higher than 140C above ambient during the time period nor should the temperature at any point on the insulation rise more than 180C during the same time period. Wozair Fire Dampers fulfil these requirements when suitably insulated.
Class H-0H-120 Fire Divisions Wozair FGD Fire Dampers have been tested and approved to meet this standard which involves a 2 hour fire test to the hydrocarbon temperature curve. It must be clearly understood that a Fire Damper can only carry an A-0 or H-0 classification by itself and on installation with suitable insulation (by others) the higher classification will be achieved. Enclosures can be pre-insulated where required. Approval for installation must be gained from the appropriate certifying authority.
Installations:
Typical installation and insulation details are included in the Lloyds Certification. However, where dampers are to be installed within the dimensional parameters defined in SOLAS Rules, the following applies: Class B For a damper to pass a class B approval, it must maintain its integrity and resist the passage of flame for a period of greater than 30 minutes, the temperature rise on the external surface of the damper must not rise higher than 140C above ambient during the time period nor should the temperature at any point on the insulation rise more than 225C during the same time period.

Control Options
With over two decades of experience, Wozair have supplied countless Fire Damper control systems to suit various applications. Our experience enables us to design control systems to meet particular requirements. The following standard systems are detailed as a guide for customers and specifiers, and can be applied to any of the fire dampers in our range. Client specific controls can be supplied on request. Depending on complexity and customers requirements, Fire Damper controls will either be supplied fitted inside a removable enclosure or fitted to a removable plate mounted on the drive side of the damper. In additions separate fire damper control panels can be supplied. For Marine MED/MRA applications Wozair MFD and LFD Dampers have been fire tested with a complete range of actuators and fire trigger devices to comply with SOLAS Rules and carry Lloyds Register/MED/MRA approval and certification.
Electric Actuation
A power open spring return electric actuator is fitted. For safe area applications the actuator will normally be a Belimo BF type suitable for 230VAC or 24VAC/DC, and for hazardous area shall be Schischek type suitable for 230VAC or 24VAC/ DC. If the damper is specified with its own frangible trigger, for safe areas the Belimo actuator will be fitted with a Belimo thermal sensor. For hazardous areas the Schischek actuator will be fitted with a thermal sensor or a rated switch will be operated upon rupture of the frangible bulb or azeotropic sensor. Damper operating times for electric actuation are as follows: Belimo open 180s, close 16s Schischek A range of options is available to a minimum 1 second closing time. Please discuss requirements with our engineering department. Both Belimo and Schischek actuators can be supplied with integral auxiliary switches for remote indication of damper status. The actuators are supplied with flying leads which can either be terminated in a junction box fitted to the damper or installed on site.
Manual Latch
The damper is manually latched in the open position at the damper, with the blades held open against return springs fitted to the non-drive end of each shaft. De-latching and hence closing of the damper is initiated by either rupture of the frangible bulb, operation of a pneumatic cylinder by inert gas or interruption of electrical power to a holding electro-magnet. Local visual indication of damper status is provided by a pointer. If required, remote damper status is provided by limit switches cabled back to a local junction box which shall either be for safe or hazardous area depending on the application. Damper closing times for manual latch dampers are less than 3 seconds.
Dampers
Pneumatic Actuation
An air to open, spring return to close pneumatic actuator is fitted with numerous options for valves and electrical items. Some options are detailed below: Actuators Actuator anodised painted or PTFE coated aluminium Painted steel Stainless steel Suitable for operation to -60C Valves & Pipework Brass or stainless steel Solenoid valves for Safe or Hazardous areas Frangible bulb operated valve Manual test valve Pilot operated valve Quick exhaust valve Non-return valve (for use with Reservoir/Black Start) Valves suitable for arctic service. Damper opening and closing time are less than 3 seconds.

Insulation
Dampers can be provided with the insulation between the controls enclosure and the casing pre-fitted. This eliminates the task of applying insulation between the casing and controls enclosure on site, and also ensures that the controls are fully accessible for maintenance after insulations. The other three sides of the damper shall be insulated in-situ by others.
Fire damper control panels can be supplied where there is a need to control a group or zone of dampers from a common point. Such panels can be fitted with control valves and instrumentation to suit specific requirements. As standard the panel is manufactured in stainless steel 36 and designed in accordance with IP55.
Auxiliary

The linkage arrangement is contained within the flanges of the damper frame. The drive shaft is extended and fitted with a welded precision machined boss for connection to the actuating mechanism. Removable linkage cover plates are fitted where required.
The blades are double skin aerofoil type from 1.2 mm thick sheet steel and are welded or bolted to 19 mm diameter shafts. Blade shafts rotate in high temperature, oil impregnated, sintered bronze bearings, fitted into the damper frame. The damper free area is a function of size that is typically 75 to 85% of the area of the duct.
Timer valves control the speed of opening the damper (0. to 6 seconds) and the period of the damper remaining in the open position (35 to 90 seconds) to allow over pressure to be exhausted from the room before closing and maintaining fire integrity. Local pointers indicate open and closed status. Actuation is pneumatic power open, spring return, rated for a maximum air pressure of 10 barg. Note: The fire suppression agent discharge pressure that is typically 00 barg, must be regulated to the 8 barg operating pressure of the actuator. This is the responsibility of the installer.

This is achieved by either hanging weights from the holes provided in the blade linkage or by adjusting the tension of a spring balancing mechanism. This must be carried out on site after installation. Weight kits and spring balancing mechanisms are optional and if required must be stated at the time of ordering. Pressure Relief Damper: At full airflow the position of the linkage is such that the blades hang at between 5 and 20 to the vertical. Non-Return Dampers: At the no flow condition the blades hang at 30 and 45 to the vertical.
Ordering
Quantities, surface finish and other special requirements to be stated separately.

Blast Dampers
Overview
Wozair manufacture two types of Blast Damper:
Physics of a Blast
An explosion releases energy into the atmosphere. Pressure increases almost instantaneously from ambient to a peak pressure (also referred to as Peak Overpressure) forming a pressure shock wave with highly compressed air known as the Incident Blast Wave. The minuscule rise time from ambient to peak pressure is referred as the Blast Duration. The blast wave rapidly expands into the atmosphere spherically until equilibrium is reached, thereafter pressure decays with time and displacement. A negative pressure phase is also formed in the process as shown below. The negative pressure phase is longer in duration and is not considered critical in designing blast resistant and blast proof structures.

Blast Damper Rating
In order to establish a correct selection of a blast damper it is important for the system designers to specify the Reflected Blast Pressure (typically between 0.35 barg/35 kPa and 1.0 barg/100 kPa) and Blast Duration (typically between 7ms and 22ms). Incident pressure is not considered when rating blast dampers as other structural elements may constitute reflection of the blast wave further increasing blast pressure.
When the Incident Blast Wave impinges on a surface it is reflected and amplified and is referred to as the Reflected Blast Pressure. The amplification depends on the Incident Angle of the pressure shock front. Maximum pressure is experienced by a surface if the blast wave impinges on it perpendicular to the direction in which it travels. If the surface is parallel only the incident pressure is experienced, therefore reflected pressure is always greater than incident pressure at the same distance from the blast epicentre. The peak reflected pressure is a function of the incident angle and the incident blast pressure which is a function of the blast source (explosive material, weight etc) and distance.

Blast Resistant Damper Wozair type BRD
Introduction
Designed for the offshore and onshore oil and gas industries the Wozair Blast Resistant Damper is a robust heavy duty device used as an HVAC louvre on a module or building blast wall.
Dampers
Description Materials
Wozair Blast Resistant Dampers are available manufactured in stainless steel throughout.
Casing
This is a continuously welded channel section 0mm deep formed from mm thick material. Flange drillings are in accordance with Wozair standard or to specific client requirements. Casings are provided with 20mm diameter lifting holes as standard.
Linkage
Debris Catcher
Dampers with multiple blades are fitted with a linkage to provide a parallel motion. Robust blade links are welded to the louvre blade shafts and connected together by flat bar and stainless steel pins. The linkage arrangement is contained within the flanges of the damper frame.
Auto Reset
Louvre blades are held at approximately 45 open position by a torsion spring pack, selected to close upon the specified blast pressure and then return the blades to the open position once the blast pressure subsides.
At the inlet face to the Blast Resistant Damper is fitted a Debris Catcher that consists of 30mm x 3mm interlocking flat bars on edge arranged as a welded grid.
Controls Options
Manual Reset
Louvre Blades
Wozair Blast Resistant Dampers can be supplied with the following control options, both fitted into a robust 3mm enclosure with removable cover, mounted on the damper side frame directly connected to the louvre blade drive shaft.
Louvre blades are held at approximately 45 open position by a spring loaded latching mechanism, selected to close upon the specified blast pressure and then remain closed until manually reset.
The louvre blades are single skin formed from 5mm thick material and are welded to 25.4mm diameter solid shafts. Louvre blades rotate in oil impregnated sintered bronze bearings fitted into the damper frame and retained with welded thrust discs. 5mm top and bottom blade stops are welded into the casing.
