JAZZ: The king of Jazz music was Louis Armstrong. Other people in the same league include King Oliver, Louis Armstrong, Kid Ory, and Duke Ellington defines the future of jazz in the United States. Jazz music moved from New Orleans, to Chicago and then New York. African Americans gathered in New Orleans. Many of the musicians called it their home. Storyville is where they exchanged their music amongst each other. Joe King Oliver played in a Creole Jazz Band. He played trombone as a child but switched to cornet as he got older. In 1922 Oliver invited Louis Armstrong in as a second cornetists. Oliver by 1929 his failing health and bad investments, and changes to the direction of jazz led to the end of his career. Edward Kid Ory was a trombonist and the very first great trombonist too. He became the leader of the first African American band to record New Orleans Jazz music in 1922. Later Joe joined King Olivers Dixie Syncopators in 1925 until 1927. He didnt retire until 1966. Louis Armstrong had a mentor named Oliver which helped him in his career as a Jazz musician along the way. In 1921 King Oliver asked Louis to join him in Chicagos Lincoln Gardens. This was a great change in his life. Although King Oliver was Armstrongs mentor Louis had amazing talent as a solist better than Oliver. Duke Ellington began his career in Washington DC. and was born in Washington DC. He later moved to New York in 1923. Between 1923 and 927 him and his band(TheWashingtonians) would regularly play ant the Club Hollywood which later became Club Kentucky. It was during this time when he composed music well during the nights. In 1922 is when record companies realized that African American musicians would be popular with the consumer market. The Okeh Record Corporation was one of the first record companies to use African American working-class on their recordings. The Race Records were created for African Americans and recorded by African American jazz musicians. The major recording places are New York, New Jersey and Chicago. With Jazz music came Jazz poetry. These poets were influenced intrigued by jazz and most scholars say that the poetry must imitate jazz music by following its rhythm and style. If not then the poetry not written with this is considered jazz related poems because it doesnt embody the music of Jazz Age. Although Whites were giving African Americans popularity with their music it brought racial tension. African Americans gained artistic respect that they have been longing for for many years. Also in the Novel The Beautiful and the Damned by F. Scott Fitzgerald a man named Anthony Patch seeks meaning in his life by waiting it to find him. Jazz music gave a lot of people something to do and a whole entire genre of music. This is the start of African Americans getting more support from white people. This is a reason for Jazz becoming more popular.

After WWI many African Americans moved north to look for jobs which is why there are many African American Musicians in New York etc. Popularity of Jazz skyrocketed because of these amazing African American Musicians. Dixieland and the blues also became popular. African Americans brought dance moves to the north including the Charleston and so forth. In fact one man named John Giola in New York managed to do the Charleston dance move for 22 hours and 30minutes. People could dance more lively because of Jazz musicians instead of the ballroom dancing to classical music that the white people usually did. Many people began to take an interest in music. People usually had a piano in their houses because it looked more decorative and began reading music. In fact the African Americans brought not only culture but gave people things to do instead of just school and telling stories all the time.
