List at least three specific examples when the students show that they have low expectations for themselves. * When Juan Cho says that he is the dumbest in the class. * They all dont want to take the test the second time. * When Juan Cho gets a job and says that he doesnt need to take Calculas.

Observaciones generales Observe the students on their field trip to the aerospace science/technology lab. How do they react? Why did their teacher, Jaime Escalante, take them there?

They are fascinated by all of the technology. The teacher takes them there to show them there to show them real life applicationsof math.

ganas= desire. The students have it later on. But the students needed it. He inspires them to have it.

They are treated pretty badly. One guy wants to be with his girlfriends wheneverhe wants doesn't care about her. Other men reat girls this way.
How do women act? What is the role of the Latina women as exhibited by this film?

They act as if they are only fit for staying at the house and doing chores.
Machismo is a term often associated with Hispanic men. It identifies aspects of their personalities which become dominant in order to keep their self-confidence and masculinity intact. List two instances where characters exhibit machismo as you interpret it in the film. * They try act "bad" in front of the teacher when he first walks in. * Angel is embarrassed that he actually kind of wants to study. Cultura What aspects of the lives of the members of the Latino culture are difficult, as presented in the film? Be specific.

Education because the schools are lacking in resources and the kids just do not have the desire to learn. Financial problems are also present in the movie because many of them are concerned about how they are going to make money and support their family.
What is rich about their culture? What do you see and hear in the film that is part of their lives that makes their lives rich, unique and part of a strong ethnic tradition?

The community, how they hang out and are friends with one another, they share very special bonds. Another thing that is rich about their culture is their work ethic, they work very hard to achieve what they want.

I think that we will have to work as hard as they did in the movie, try our best in order to be able to score high in the AP exam in May.
