QoS in Grid/Cloud Systems

RAAP-UCLM
The team belonging to the High-Performance Networks and Architectures group from I3A (Albacete Research Institute of Informatics), UCLM (University of Castilla-La Mancha), Spain, has focused its research activities on Grid & Cloud systems since 2005. Our research team is involved in several national and regional funded projects: High-performance, Reliable Architectures for Data Centers and Internet Servers, CONSOLIDER/INGENIO 2010 project, funded with >1M (UCLM only) Architecture of Servers, Applications and Services, MICINN project, funded with 400K MOTEGRID: Grid Architecture for Distributed Processing of Information Captured by WSNs, JCCM project, funded with 1.5K The team is currently composed of 6 members, including 2 Associate Professors, 1 Post Doctoral scientist and 2 Phd students. We have access to extensive hardware and software facilities, including middleware, supercomputers, and Grid/Cloud testbeds. Our research interests are focused on the following topics: Scheduling/Management in Grids Dynamics SLAs in Grids/Clouds Interoperability among Cloud & Grid environments Elastic scheduling/management of Cloud resources Energy-aware Cloud infrastructures Cloud simulation environments

Participation in the FP7 Funding Initiatives

Our team is strongly interested in participating in proposals for Integrated Projects, STREPs and Networks of Excellence in the following Objetives: ICT-2011.1.2 Cloud Computing, Internet of Services and Advanced Software Engineering ICT-2011.1.1 Future Networks

Autonomic Scheduling in Grids Scheduling In-Advance in Grids

An autonomic A framework has been built on top of network-aware Grid the Globus Toolkit scheduling architecture is proposed as a possible and the GridWay solution to improve the meta-scheduler to end-to-end QoS. This provide QoS by architecture uses means of performing heuristics that consider meta-scheduling in the network as a first level resource. Furthermore, it advance. This presents an autonomous behavior so that it adapts framework manages an efficient data structure to to the dynamic changes of the Grid resources. record idle/busy periods of resources in order to choose the most suitable one for each job. Besides, no prior knowledge on the duration of jobs is required due to the use of prediction techniques. Dynamic SLAs in Grids/Clouds Resource Elasticity for Cloud Environments An architecture capable of providing a service level agreement negotiation service and management for the agreed terms is proposed. This proposal introduces two new layers responsible of the SLAs handling and management. These layers consider the SLA standard proposed by the Open Grid Forum (OGF). In addition, they can also handle metascheduling mechanisms for non trivial execution parameters (e.g. economical, energetic, etc. . .). Moreover, this architecture can be easily adapted to work over different Grid/Cloud middleware, improving the interoperability. MoteGrid This project is centered on the development and evaluation of a flexible architecture that integrates sensor networks with Grid systems. This architecture combines real time data gathering from a monitored environment (provided by the WSN) with the large computing and storage capacity that a Grid offers. A new type of advance-reservation lease is proposed for the Cloud user in order to deal with inaccurate booking decisions. Some modifications are required in the cloud infrastructure in order to support it: a new module for the booked virtual machine, some changes in advance reservation leases within the cloud manager and some background support from the SLA management layer.

Simulation for Cloud Computing Needs A simulation tool for studying complex pay-asyou-go scenarios based on cloud infrastructures is currently under development.
