Page 1 ELTeCS People, places, projects English Language Teaching Contacts Scheme ELTeCS has a limited amount of funding to support ELT projects. The aim is to support innovative projects that will improve ELT practice on a regional or cross-border basis. Any member can propose a project for funding. Project proposals can be for workshops, seminars, consultancies, study visits, shadowing visits, attachments, exchanges and courses, including distance learning courses. Look at project examples on the website to see what has been done already. The maximum ELTeCS financial support per project, for all categories of project, is now 2,500. ELTeCS project criteria To have the best chance of success, you will need to make sure your project proposal meets all these criteria. These notes are very brief explanations; please consult the ELTeCS website for full details and advice (www.britishcouncil.org/learning/ eltecs/eltecs-projects-funding.htm) or contact Penny Trigg for a copy. Feasibility: Proposal writers will have to convince the evaluation committee that it is possible to carry out the project and finish it with the planned results/outcomes. Regionality: In general, at least two countries should be involved in the project. Impact: A project proposal should clearly indicate which ELT groups will benefit from its results, and should show how it would influence their practice and contribute to professional development. Creativity and relevance: These are paired together to indicate that, although innovation or originality are important, an ELTeCS project proposal cannot be considered if it does not demonstrate that it is relevant to clearly identified regional needs. Follow-up and dissemination: The sharing of outcomes among as many ELT practitioners as possible is very important; the proposal should make clear what the follow-up activities will be, bearing in mind that these may or may not be funded by ELTeCS. Resources and budget: Project teams will need to show how they would find matching funds/goods in kind (for example, getting the cost of a room in a school perhaps for free), and state clearly how they would use the ELTeCS funds. Deadlines for project proposals in 2005 are 1 April and 1 October. Please send your proposals to

penny.trigg@britishcouncil.org or post or fax to the address on the second page of this leaflet.
